FP Strategy

So it seems like most people go two ways on their FP strategy. One would be to book FPs for the mornings, get them over with quickly, and get a 4th or 5th additional FPs (if available). But lines are usually shorter in the mornings so is it worth it-and would you be able to get additional ones especially when the crowds are high?

The other strategy I've been seeing is to book FP for the afternoons, go to the parks early, ride the popular ones first thing when lines are relatively low, and use the FPs later. This would mean that they won't be able to get additional FPs until later in the afternoon when availability would be low.

I'm going in late December/close to New Years when it's going to be super crowded, so I'm not sure which strategy to use. On one hand, I feel like FPs would be gone quickly so I should just go with the 2nd strategy, but on the other hand, if its really crowded I feel like wait times in the morning will be just as long anyway, which pushes me more towards the first strategy....

Any thoughts or inputs?

Well, there are a few things to consider. Do you want to do any of the attractions that always have a wait? For example, we've gone right at Rope Drop and still had a wait for Space Mountain. That would be a good FP+ ride in the morning. Also, Anna/Elsa meet and greet, Toy Story Mania, possibly Soarin', Seven Dwarfs, etc. You could schedule three that typically have waits all day and go from there.

Or, if there are any rides that you'd like to ride twice, you could use the FP+ for those. Ride once on standby early in the morning when crowds are low, and use the FP+ for the second ride.

For example, if you love BTMRR enough to ride twice, want to see Anna/Elsa, and want to ride Space Mountain, you could always schedule FP+ for the three in the morning, hit BTMRR first (without using a FP+ since the lines are nothing that early), then use your three FP+, coming back to BTMRR when lines are a bit longer (say, 11-12 or so). You could get another FP+ around lunchtime this way.

I really hope that makes sense. :)

ETA: Alternative suggestion:

You could see which FP+ choices are available for your days, scheduling the ones you want the absolute most for 11 a.m. or later. Whichever ones you don't get should be your first stops at Rope Drop. For example, let's say you get TSMM, Tower of Terror, and Voyage of the Little Mermaid. But you also really want to ride RnRC. Just head straight for RnRC as soon as you enter the park. Keep riding your favorites till the lines get long and your FP+ selections kick in, which should be around lunchtime. Keep in mind that lines are generally shorter during fireworks shows and later in the evening, too, so you'll likely get another chance to hit rides you missed if you stay all day and/or leave and come back that evening.
