FP ride closures

We are going to the World in the 3rd week of August, first time in the summer in a loooooong time. I'm just curious what happens to our FP if the ride gets shut down temporarily during our FP time due to the classic afternoon thunderstorm.

While I can't offer you a definitive answer, here is what happened to us during the FP+ testing last year:

We had a FP+ for TSMM, but the ride broke down while we were in line. Within minutes, I received an email stating that I could choose to FP any other ride in the park that day (at any time), or I could FP TSMM if the ride became available again that day. If we chose to FP another ride, the FP for TSMM was gone. We ended up using the FP on RnRC that day. All we had to do was scan our bands for it to work.

I would think that something like this is still the case, but I'm not absolutely sure.

I am back from a week in WDW using FP+ for the first time. There were 2 times when rides were shut down (though not for thunderstorms).

We got in line for our Splash Mountain FP+ and got up to the loading area when they closed the ride and emptied the queues. As the FP line exited, we each got a paper fast pass which was good for any time for the upcoming 2 weeks for the main MK rides (but not 7DMT). We ended up using the FP later in the week for Splash Mountain.

The other FP+ was for 7DMT but the ride was down almost the entire day. We had a FP for 7pm but the ride was down the entire rest of the day. My sister had been in line earlier in the day when it was closed down and they told her she could come back later in the day to use her FP when the ride reopened. So we were all without an extra fp that day. We returned to the park later that week and I went to the FP+ kiosk and asked about getting 7DMT and the guy laughed at me and said that had been sold out for 2 months. I said "I know. I had a FP but the ride was closed!" He said that was too bad but there was nothing they could do. My father went to the FP line at 7DMT and talked to the CM there who told him the FP had expired at the end of the calendar day (when the ride had been closed). My father argued the point that the ride was down the entire day so it wasnt like we had "wasted" our FP or something. We were then able to ride thanks to a bit of Disney magic and an understanding CM.

If you have a MDE account you will get an e-mail and a message in your account that you can use it on that attraction until the park closes or on another attraction and will list the options in that park. My nephew and friend were in line for a ride that was going to close for the rest of the day and they were given the paper passes.

The down side is that if the closure was prior to this time you do not get this message. This can result in a long FP+ line as there may be three or four hours of FP+ holders al trying to use them at the same time if it reopens just before the start of your window.

We had this happen to us on 2 of our days.

I went to a FP kiosk to inquire as 2 of our FP+ rides were down during our ride times. I was told I had "recovery" FP+ which could be used whenever the ride was up, or could be used on other ride instead. Any time we wanted, just scan in. I checked my MDE FP+ list and there they were. We rode TT twice with those.

I was told by another guest you do get an email when there is a problem, like a closure. I don't bother to check emails on vacation.

regards

you do get the option of an "anytime" fastpass link on your MDE-be aware it expires on that day whether you use it or not-BUT if you are already in line you get a paper fastpass that can be used in that park ANY day and is good for a week! We were not aware of the expiration on our MDE (DH and DD had paper passes) so I almost missed RnR because of that. The CM grudgingly gave me a paper FP to use so I wouldn't have to wait standby. Not sure why paper has a week expiration while MDE is only that day.
