FP Procedure Creating Long Back-Ups

I've been in the parks for a total of 10 days since the change and while I've noticed a bit of a backup in FP entrances (the worst being Space Mt.), we were able to get through the bottleneck quickly and then moved right along. In other words, I have not seen it make the FP lines any longer in duration.
 
I've noticed a lot of people (even AP holders) have gotten nastier to CMs. During our Fantasmic viewing they were telling everyone in the sitting section to sit. Instead of just asking if it was okay to stand until a little closer to start these two women snapped at the CM that they knew it was sitting only and they would be standing until the last minute. I just shook my head. I get that the sentiment is the same but being polite and asking if it is okay to stand for a little bit is much better than biting off the poor CM's head.


Sadly, not just at Disney, it seems that civility is dead. I don't know if its social media, or the "entitlement culture" that has built up, or what. Makes me sad.

I am FAR from perfect, but I really try to be kind whenever possible.

If multiple tickets have been scanned into one phone, do they count the number of people going through, or scan the phone multiple times as each person goes through?
Scanning the same phone multiple times should not be difficult.
The Disneyland app places the barcode at the top of the display, so it is easy to scan.

I guess it's nice that there are choices -- scan tickets, scan one phone, scan multiple phones. I imagine once people get comfortable with their favorite method, the lines will start moving along more quickly. Just a learning curve for something new.
 

Yeah, I noticed a huge backup yesterday at Astro Blasters. I was watching very closely and it looked like the big problem tended to be people with maxpass getting a fastpass and arriving to use it 15-30 minutes early, like they didn't understand that it doesn't mean instant access. The actual scanning doesn't seem bad except sometime at the second checkpoint people put their tickets away and have to pull them back out.
 
I will admit I was one of the people that was a little slow on the learning curve for this new fast pass system. We are a family of 6 and were there for just one day, so we did not shell out the extra 60 bucks for Maxpass. Not to mention we do not have the latest and greatest phones. We have an old iPhone's that consistently have battery issues, so I just don't even like the idea of having to rely on my outdated technology! What happens if your phone dies while in the park or you happen to lose your phone? All your tickets are gone, your fast passes are gone. But I guess that can happen with paper tickets too. Anyway, we pulled our fast passes the old fashioned way from the machine. Again, I admit that I didn't read where it said you needed to have your tickets to use fast passes. My husband had our paper tickets and wasn't going on the ride, but I opened the email with the link to our e-tickets on my phone (no, I didn't have the app dowloaded on my piece of junk phone) but the e-tickets wouldn't scan. ughhh. It took us a while to finally figure out a good way to manage how to use fast passes for our family. Count me among those who miss the good old days of just using your fastpass. Like Cogsworth says, "If it ain't baroque, don't fix it."
 
Last we heard on the subject, management said Magic Bands are not coming to DLR.

No plan for magic bands. They wouldn't be rolling out scanners if MB was the end point.

I know some imagineers and we were talking about the MaxPass a couple months before it finally rolled out. One of them confirmed they are just trying to get the functionality finalized and then will be bringing Magicbands to DLR sooner rather than later. It just takes time and software/hardware changes-e.g. Change all hotel room locks, update all scan points, integrate credit cards, etc.

I remember when WDW rolled out FastPass+ in 2014. They had the exact same issue of people not knowing how to use the system and it backing up FP lines. That problem was nonexistent this year because people have had time to adjust. The same thing will happen eventually at Disneyland.

I was there D23 week and the only rides that consistently had backups like that were Indy and Space Mountain, and that was because people got into the FP line, thinking it was standby, because they were so far back that they couldn't see that they were in the FP line.
Heh, it still happens at WDW sometimes if you get some people who have no idea how the system works or are trying to work the system. ;)

Would they really have to tear out the scanners? What if Disneyland magicbands used the scanners? They would function a little differently than WDW magicbands, but it could conceivably work. That way, if you're a hotel guest or put out x amount of dollars, you get a magicband. For $10 you get to use your phone. Or you pay nothing extra and deal with the hassle of running for your FPs. I don't know. I could see it working someday in the near future if they really wanted to invest in it.
 
I don't think it's a fluke. When I was there July 8-9, I noticed that FP entrances where sometimes backed up and sometimes they weren't. For example, when we used our Indy FPs, we walked right in, but when we came out, there was quite a back up to get into the FP queue. RSR racers was always backed up.
It really depends on the guests. When it is usually backed up, it is the person at the entrance not understanding what to do. It moves quite quickly when everyone is ready, sort of like the bag lines or the front gate.

It would be nice if MaxPass had the option on the phone to scan all the FP from that phone in one swipe. Can that be done??

Because MB use RFID technology and the scanners just scan bar codes. Unless the scanners have RFID readers already built in then no point in making the bands.

I was looking at the scanners the other day and at least the ones at the front entry gates are looking the same as the ones I used in another job years ago. I don't know if they're truly that old, but if Disney is in the market to upgrade or replace, they make just be waiting for the right time.

That would really be a huge help. But then nobody can tell if the right number of people are going in with that scan.

The just replaced the fastpass ones and upgrades the entire Disneyland system to allow scanning a barcode from the app. I just don't see them paying more in the next 5 years to bring in RFID readers when they don't even currently have that tech in their regular tickets. Remember WDW slowly swapped tickets to RFID and keys to the world before magicbands even started. Again it would take an entire infustructure change that isn't necessary at Disneyland.

Every time I got in a FP line today, I heard CMs tells each FP holder to keep their pass/ticket out so it could be scanned at the next station. I was up to speed on the new system the say it was introduced. However, many people are visiting from out of town, are tending to their kids and occupying their thoughts with all manner of other things so it doesn't surprise me that they somehow don't hear the CMs. In a few more weeks, people should have the hang of it.
