FP+ (No More Paper Fastpasses)

I personally am a big fan of fast pass plus. I'm a big planner and I don't like the idea of having to run to different kiosks to make sure they don't run out and what not. However I've been to WDW when they were still doing the old fashioned way of fast pass and I lived to tell the tale :) I'm going for the first time in July so if anything it will be somewhat nostalgic for me. :earsboy:

Hoping that it NEVER arrives. I haven't been back to WDW since they implemented FP+. It's bad enough you have to book dining 6 months out. But we Disneylanders like to walk into the park and then decide where to go. The last thing I want to do is pre-plan rides. The next to last thing I want to do is walk into DL and the first thing I do is look down at my phone so I can start booking FPs for rides. It steals from the visual experience and it will cause a huge glut of people doing the same thing when they walk in.

Vote no for DL FP+.
Agree 100%. We also haven't been back to WDW since FP+. Sad, since we had been more than 10 times at that point.

I don't hate the idea. If they can execute it properly I'll love it! Most of my concerns have been stated by others. I'm wondering if one person can "collect" fastpasses for their whole party? Will the networks be able to support the amount of people on their phones getting fastpasses? I hope the entrance to the park doesn't get backed-up/congested cause people are stopping and getting onto their phones immediately.

I have to admit I do look forward to being able to get a fastpass without hiking across the park to do so! That will definitely save some miles for me!

RSR fastpasses will be gone for the day very quickly!

I think it's great once you actually get used to it. You don't use your phone at all when you're in the park; everything is done ahead of time. I guess it's all what you're used to and the attitude you have toward change:thumbsup2

We got used to it, and we still didn't like it. Has nothing to do with our attitude towards change. Change is great! Love change :) It has a lot to do with how we tour, and FP+ doesn't work well with our personal touring style.

you actually CAN do that. After your initial 3 FP's, it works just the same as the FP system at DLR.
Based on availability. In our experience on our last WDW trip, there was no availability after we used our first 3 FPs. And we were done with using our FPs by 2pm or so. On our trip to DLR this past November, legacy FPs were available much later into the day. Availability doesn't last as long when you have people booking up FPs all day long 30-60 days in advance.

Not discounting your personal experience, just expressing that your experience has not been everyone's experience with the FP+ system.

I am a WDW person that occasionally goes to DLR, and while I love the old school FP system at DLR, actually carrying around little slips of paper seems archaic now that I'm used to the WDW system. Sounds like a positive change, especially if it is accompanied by free wifi in the parks.

This would mean the would need to put WIFI in the park - I believe there is still no WIFI at DL? As a non-American guest, I don't have access to internet without wifi........

On the other side of things, I really enjoy not having to carry my phone with me while in the parks (it's also my work phone, and I occasionally get distracted with work calls - like to leave that for the hotel for later). But I guess it's a connected world......

I would think you would have to be able to reserve/carry multiple fp's on one phone, because most of the little kids aren't going to have phones... but does that mean without a phone, (like a 12-year-old getting to go on a few rides on their own) you're out of luck? I would think the magic bands (or syncing to the tickets at least) would be necessary, right?

The thing I disliked about the old system (in DW...I won't have my first DL visit until this summer) was having to criss-cross the park all day long to get the next FP. The thing I dislike about the new system is having to decide on rides 3 months in advance. It sounds like this system may solve both problems.

I'm OK with using my phone to access the system, and I would much prefer to use my phone over a kiosk.

I'm not really knowledgeable about the necessary technology/infrastructure to make this work, so this is just a guess, but here's what I'm thinking (and hoping). You're already able to load your whole group's tickets, including bar codes, into your app, and maybe that was put in place in preparation for the new system. If you can get fp for your whole group through the app, and the fp is tied to the bar code of the ticket, then perhaps either the phone or ticket could be used to enter the fp queue. If both fp and park admission were tied to both the phone and ticket, it would also be less terrible if your kid loses their paper ticket.

My unused paper fp will be worth millions! JK :)
Couldn't they just have the info associated with your parkhopper/ap/etc. You already have to insert them to get a fp, so now they just keep a db and have you scan them on return. Could be problems when the db goes down though, and not as easy to give others your fp. I think a phone app is a bad idea and excludes some.

I hadn't thought of that! It was nice to be able to hand out unused fp's and sometimes we didn't know who in our group was going to use them until it was time...

They are likely trying to curb that tendency....unused FPs mean the FP and SB lines move just a little quicker. It's unfortunate, though, because I enjoyed giving them away also if we couldn't use them.

This is my concern too, as a regular international visitor. I just could not afford the astronomical roaming data charges. I turn my phone to WiFi only as soon as I board the plane and it stays that way until I come back to Europe. Like you I enjoy my unplugging time and not having to constantly check my phone when in Disney.

There is a huge difference in the type of people who visit Disneyland compared to Walt Disney World. The majority of visitors to Disneyland are from California, where as in Walt Disney World the majority of visitors are either not from Florida or international. This could be a deciding factor for Disney, for the next gen of Fast Pass, as we have seen how successful the magic bands (in Disney terms) have been in Florida.

I would assume you will be able to put in your park tickets into the app and get everyone's FP together, I believe the app is already equipped for linking your tickets right? I love the idea of being in DL and being able to get a RSR FP without having to run across there, assuming we will be able to still get them for both parks no matter what park you are in

ETA: Keep in mind also there will be kiosks in the park to get them also just not at the rides regular FP spot

From what I've heard paper FP will also be an option, which I assume is the purpose of the kiosks.

I haven't used the current system at WDW. Only the paper option. I haven't even really looked at how it works since I haven't been there in so long, so I can't judge how that works. But the thought of having to use my phone all day is terrible. I plan to have my phone on me, just in case I get separated from my family, and I need to contact one of them. But I don't plan to do much else with it. And I don't want my battery to get drained. I want to avoid draining my battery so much that I am looking at buying a new camera before I leave.
