Are the old FP- machines removed yet or are they just covered up? While I think that FP+ is here to stay, if they haven't been removed it's possible they could reinstate the old system by modifying the machines with a touch point instead of a card reader?

Just back and the old FP machines still there, just covered. There are CM's standing around them telling people they are closed.

Really I thought they were removed. I wonder why they are being kept.

Probably just waiting until the FP+ system completely rolls out.

Hmm I wonder if they will ever sell them off I would love to have one in my theatre room :)

If they go up for auction I am SO offering Fastpasses at home... just think of the possibilities. Use of TV remote control, best seat in the car...

But seriously, the old system is a paper system, it can't just be upgraded to touchpoints.. that is what the new system is!

Future Fastpass feature to consider -- The Quick Pick.

At the (FP+) kiosk you name the ride. It names the come back time (or "sold out"). You touch your Magic Band to accept it, or instead go on and do/look at something else.

There should be some formula based on the FP+s you already have including Quick Picks to set a time delay before you can do another Quick Pick. For example, if you have no other unmatured FP+s then you would have to wait 2 hours or until the latest Quick Pick matured before you can do another.

Choosing fastpasses if you press the "fast pick" it gives you the most recommended rides and based in a series around the parks that usually have a gap in between each ride.

Or I can say it seems to give recommended rides. I only see this feature used when it's creating small parties to make an overall larger party.

They aren't being kept. Many have been removed already. They can't just rip them all out overnight...it takes time. They seem to be prioritizing removing the ones which they are replacing with FP+ kiosks. For instance, the paper FP machines have been removed from Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin in Tommorowland and also from the Winnie the Pooh / Journey of the Little Mermaid location in Fantasyland. Both now feature FP+ kiosks in the area where the old paper FP machines used to be.

Disney wants people pre-booking FP+. While some "day of" access might occur in the future, the entire business case of FP+ is predicated on everyone having FP+ reserved before stepping foot into the park, thus encouraging people to pre-plan their vacations.

So, I don't see what the purpose of paper FP machines would benefit, even if they were RFID enabled and linked to FP+. At that point, why not just replace them with more FP+ kiosks so you can book a ride for anywhere in the park without running to a ride? That would work more or less as well as old style FP machines, even if people are able to get additional FP+ the day of beyond the 3 pre-booked ones.

Also, Disney wants to save on the printing costs of the old FPs. They want it all electronic.
