FP+ is making WDW unattractive to us

After hearing and reading about FP+, it has made me not want to vacation there anymore. We usually go in the off season, and our family of four has always planned our FP's very well. We always have one lined up, and have never waited more than 30 mins in line (30 is unusually high, we typically wait approx. 5-15 mins for most rides). If my kiddos want to ride Splash twice, we would just get another fastpass. I have no interest in spending a small fortune on tickets then have to wait in hour + lines so my kids can ride their favorites. Any thoughts? Feeling very un-Disney right now.:sad2:

I don't think you'll end up waiting more than that now. Depends when you go, of course, but standby lines haven't been any worse from what I've seen and if you rope drop you can still ride multiple times.

When we went at this week a few years ago we never waited for more than 20 minutes for a ride and I only pulled 2 fastpasses per day. So for me, I'll probably see more than before.

We visited over President's Day Weekend, Saturday-Wednesday, and the crowd levels ranged from 7 to 9. I consider that crowded. Still, with the exception of a horrid 75 minute wait at Test Track due to an immensely inaccurate posted wait time of 30 minutes, we never waited for anything longer than 23 minutes. (I timed every wait!). Before FP+, I am sure that your family used certain strategies to avoid long lines, including the judicious use of FPs. Now, with FP+, you still have to do the same. FP+ is not a panacea against having to plan. You still need to do that. And when you do, you will find that you are able to "beat the system" just like before. There will be differences, but it can be done. Rope Drop is critical now because you cannot fast pass everything. So rides that you know you are going to do standby are best done very early or very late. So use RD and EMHs. If your kids are only interested in a half dozen rides and want to do those over and over again, well, then you're in trouble. But if you want to explore the full bounty of all the parks, it can be done as long as you have a plan and don't mind arriving early. That is what we did, and on days when the parks were at "9" and 70-90 minute waits were the norm, we didn't wait in a single one of them (except that one bad TT experience) and we did every ride that we wanted to do that was actually operating. I am not a huge fan of FP+, but it certainly didn't present any obstacles to make me think that we won't return. In fact, my teenage daughter hugged me and thanked me for being such a "Disney Planner" and even said: "If mommy and I ever came here by ourselves, we could never do what we are doing now because we just aren't as good at this as you are. You are getting us through incredibly crowded parks without ever having to wait 30 minutes for a ride." It can be done, but you have to know what you are doing.

You are not alone. Personally I rather like the Fastpass Plus but it's not for everybody. I'd consider trying it out before deciding it's a dealbreaker, but at any rate there are many other vacation destinations to try out there.

We know that each family will see it, and approach it so differently. Late risers will swear by it as being the greatest thing. People who were used to being able to ride lots of rides with less wait will hate it. Some planners will love it, and fly by the seat of your pants will not love it.

I am going to reserve judgement until after our June trip, but i am in the very nervous category right now. Just now sure how the peak season will fill using the new system.

I have been playing around with a lot of possible ideas the last two weeks since we book our first on-site trip for POP. For my family I think I can get a handle on DHS and AK. We might not get as many rides on Star Tours as we like but we can figure something out and take advantage of "less crowded" mornings.

EPCOT could be easy to get a handle on if the tiers go away. For us it might actually be a good thing. We have a late arrival planed for a day to tour the world and do the Perry thing. A couple of well placed FP+ could get us on TT or Soarin an extra time.

Now my biggest concern, once again for my family, is our favorite park MK. We are used to rope drop and using fast passes to ride Splash, Big Thunder, Buzz several times per day. With only 3 FP+ choices that is going to put a limit on some of our favorite rides.

That being said....I am going to do my best to get that Disney Feel no matter what.......pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust::grouphug:

If you go during non-peak times you probably won't be waiting in hour + line for anything.
I can only go during peak times so we aren't planning a WDW vacation again until FP+ is done with its testing and is what it is. If this is what it is going to be then we probably won't be going back for a very long time.
If I could go during slow times I'd still plan my vacation because it doesn't seem like it would effect my wait times too much.

I'm with TDC Nala on this one (and many others). Don't let a bunch of other people make up your mind for you on this. Go ahead and try it out for your self. There are lots of folks who are using FP+ for their trips and not having trouble.

Give it a try, I think you'll be surprised how little FP+ affects your trip overall, it will probably cause you to miss out on a couple re-rides a day but otherwise everything will be more or less the same as your previous trips.

You'd have thought that trying to actually enforce return times like is done at Tokyo disney with rigid flexibility on FP would have been an option before spending over a billion on something new...

That was always why there was a massive problem with the lines towards the end of the day....

I really don't like the thought of the new changes but noticed the plan to game the system in other threads is equally disturbing.

Oh well.

Ummm, WDW has enforced FP return times for quite a while now.

I know they were enforcing FP return times in June 2012 before FP+ started rolling out.

I haven't been able to go back since MB and FP+ went into effect. So in a way I see where you are coming from wiyh being nervous. However, I have also seen plenty of people on here say that they had no problems and very little wait. So considering that, I will choose to pass judgement after I have had a chance to see it for myself.

This past Sunday, the android app only connected to the FP+ system about half the time and still shows phantom fastpasses. I just gave up and went to the FP+ kiosks and had the cast members use their system. I took a photo of their work and just flashed the pic when there were problems, and there were.

I had experiences similar to the preFP+ system. Sunday I did rope drop at HS and rode ToT two times walk-on and could have likely done the same a few times more. I rode RnR single rider with no wait right after ToT. To experience the old Disney Ninja Style will most likely require Rope Drop. The sleep-in style encouraged by the new FP+ is likely to yield lower crowd volume in the first hour.

Since March 7, 2012. Not that I'm bitter or anything. ;)

And how long had they had them for how long were they not enforcing that...yes, that makes my point. Stupid that only recently did they enforce this as people ignored the return times. More gaming the system.

More like Disney was OK with it before, but when they realized they would need to soak every ounce of capacity out of the system for FP+ they were no longer OK with it.
