For ever saying that, if you're solo, you could wait to get your Fps until a few days beforehand. That's past tense. I just logged on to make a few tweaks (changes) to my AK day in another two weeks. I'd decided to eat at Yak and Yeti, and they had very few available times-that should have been my first clue to the difficulty ahead. Since the available time conflicted with my Nemo time, I looked to change Nemo. It's only for one (I'll be solo that day) so I figured "No problem" Big problem-no FP+ available that day-so I can do Yak and Yeti or Nemo, but not both. For some reason I wanted to tweak Kilimanjaro Safari-very few left, and only in the afternoon. Lion King show? Nada! So there goes Yak and Yeti.

With all the recent and upcoming changes at AK, there has been more churn than usual in people's plans.

I was at WDW solo a few weeks ago and didn't make a single FP in advance, as a matter of fact over the course of 6 days, only made one FP and that was while I was waiting in line for another ride. I rode everything I wanted to ride including Soarin, TSMM, ToT (multiple times), Safari, EE, SDMT, POTC, JC, CoP, TT, SSE, The Land, Figment, Nemo, Pooh, GMR, watched Hall of Presidents and saw FOLK. Didn't ride RnRC or Star Tours because I never ride those, SM again never ride it but could have, MS again never do. Met Chewy (highlight of the trip) saw Wishes and Star Wars FWs, ate at least one thing at every F&W booth except 2, had a wine pairing lunch, cheese pairing seminar, 3 food demos and 3 wine tastings, pool time every day. Had one ADR, tea at GF but I knew I was eating all my meals at F&W, had appetizers and a drink at the new bar at AK. It's possible, you just have to be prepared to wait in line if necessary. My longest wait was 20 min and that was actually at a booth.

I really hope going solo makes it that much easier, but I did max out all my FP+ picks ASAP. If they are "bonus" than that's a win!

Solo you would probably have no issue sitting at the bar at Yak and Yeti as a walk in that's what I always do - as long as you don't mind sitting at the bar.
Most places that have a bar you should be able to do this and it is often easer to get one seat than two.
Also some restaurants you need to search for 2 - they return no availability when you enter one for some reason - not sure if that is an issue now that there is a fee associated with missed reservations

As for Rides - I always book the FP as far as possible in advance and then I look to make changes as I lock in my plans down - or even on the day - at that point it all comes down to luck

When traveling solo, I have had great success getting all the ADRs and FP+ that I wanted. Of course, busy restaurants and attractions do fill up. And once they're booked, they're booked.

But as you get closer to the actual date, including and especially the night before, people change their plans. I went in the heart of summer, and could get any restaurant I wanted. I even got a FP+ for Soarin' on its opening day, just by being patient and checking the app.

A few tips:
  • Once you do see an opening, jump on it! Those ADRs and FP+ do open up, but the good thing about going solo is that you can immediately grab it before someone else does -- before you can even turn to your friend and utter the words, "hey do you want to eat at Ohana tomorr... d'oh!"
  • Remember that tables for singles are usually the same as tables for two, so you're competing against pairs.
  • As @tony67 mentioned, you can also sit at a bar which adds a lot of flexiblity.

I wouldn't think you would need a FP for Nemo. It's a large theater. (Probably don't need it for Lion King either)

That being said, I always make my FP as soon as I can, and tweak them if needed.
