Dang....soooo, I'm 'not' going to the dark side??? I so wanted to be a rule breaker, just this once.

It did feel like the dark side.

I do admit the first time I tried using a late FP (on purpose) I was really nervous and felt like I was doing something wrong. When the CM at FP return didn't even look twice, I felt a lot better.

Now, I think the force is with me!

...I hate these late FP threads....rule...no rule...morally wrong...says you can....doesn't say you can't.

Here's the truth...Walt Disney World tells CM that visitors are allowed to use FP anytime after the starting point on the same day of issue. Period, end of story. We have done it ourselves dozens of times. There is no "rule" or "law" that you are breaking in using the FP late. If you choose to try using it late, you are not morally bankrupt. If you are turned away from using it late...well them's the breaks. Regardless of when you use it during the day, the FP line is still limited to only so many people in a day. The vast majority (let's say 90 %) of visitors have no idea you can use the FP late. (Hell, half of em don't know how to use a FP.)

Please stop all this and tell me....can I bring back my re-usable mug from my last trip? (I'm kidding!)

So again, if you feel that you must use the FP within the window, then do so. I just wanted to inform you that using a FP late has no affect of crowd distribution or wait time. By using a FP late you actually allowed folks to ride earlier, and the folks behind you will ride at the same time if you had used the FP in the window.

Ok, I made it to page 10... and I'm exhausted, but I feel this thread must go on!

I've used late FP's, accidentally, intentionally, whatever. If the ride is down during my FP window, I come back later - can you imagine if you couldn't? If I'm on my way to use my FP and see another ride with a short stand-by then I'll take a detour and ride that first then proceed to use my FP.

What I'm more interested in is what would happen if Disney started looking at what FP's were used when and how many weren't used at all.

They could make FP's like movie tickets, allowing you to chose a return time instead of first available. I know I've not gotten FP for certain rides becasue the time available was after we were leaving on our last day, or very late and our toddler would be in bed, or we would be at a different park for an ADR. People who know they aren't going to use it until later could just chose that time and free up the earlier time slots for people leaving early, with kids, etc.

If you think the lines are long at the machines NOW ... imagine every user arguing with their traveling buddies about what time they want to experience Space Mountain.. having troubles with the touch screen etc.

In all seriousness, Disney has patented about 75 different iterations of the Fastpass "business process" and one of those iterations was a 'user-definable return time".

Of course if Disney DID implement that, one of the problems would be that the most valued times would be gone in a heartbeat... with large gaps of 'unwanted' times in between ...

The real test case for "it only works because nobody knows" is Disneyland. There, a much larger proportion of guests are locals, and a lot more of them know the ins and outs of the fastpass system as it works on the ground. It is simply common knowledge on DL-oriented boards that late, same day fastpasses are fine, just as one knows the earth is round and revolves around the Sun. There are no discussions whether you can or can't, and precious few about whether you should or shouldn't. You just do.

Yet, somehow, the Fastpass system there hasn't melted.

that's getting a little too literal isn't it? it also says to return BETWEEN the 2 times..... which one do you go by? i think some people just need to try using a little common sense and good judgement....

I think you shouldn't take it too literally....if it says return between the two times, return between the two times. Don't make a fuss over wording. It takes the risk out of the fastpass. I for one want to make sure I get on the ride and chancing the window of opportunity seems silly to me.

The FP lines at DL are not totally out of control, they are the same at WDW, yet pretty much everyone knows you can use FP late over there.

We have never been denied nor have we seen anyone else denied entry to a ride after the FP has expired. That said, I have also been told that because Soarin' is a very popular ride, late FPs may not be accepted by the CMs.

Everyone who wants to follow the FP to the letter, . We'll keep showing up with lapsed passes until we're personally told by a CM, that we can't do it.

Nope, I don't care what anyone does. I tend to get tired of the same old, same old arguments. Disney 'says' one thing, but acts in a different manner. I hate ambiguity...hate it when something is stated but it can be ignored.
Either stick to what is written or change the wording. Of course, as I said earlier...perhaps that stated return time is keeping a lot of 'innocents' in line, so that the minority can use FP however they wish.

So, here, out in the open...I say....in Sept, I plan to ignore the return time that is stated on my FP, and go and ride when it is convenient for me, not when a piece of paper states I should return. I'm headed to the 'dark side'..now, if I get back and I have had any issues with CMs enforcing the stated return times....well, well....I don't know, just well!

First step is using the Fastpass late. You can work up to driving over the posted speed limit (now you're breaking laws.) One day, you'll be using household cleaners in a manner not directed by the label, like holding your Scrubbing Bubbles less than 12" from the surface to be cleaned (breaks a FEDERAL law!)

I will happily join! Most of the time I use my FPs within the designated window, but because we live neaby I sometimes visit the parks early and get FPs on my way out. Then I come back in the evening and use them or give them to hubby to use in the evening (he likes to run over for Fantasmic or Illuminations).

I have probably been 8-10 times since 2002.

It has never even occured to myself and my wife to attempt to use a FastPass later than the designated time slot.

I think that the front of the FP pretty much states the spirit of the law.
