We last visited the world in Oct 2012, before the FP+ changes occurred. We are going again in March/April and I'm curious if my plan sounds good to the experts.

My dh and I will be traveling with our dds (13, 11, and 7) and my parents. Our girls are ride junkies, but still like to meet characters too. We are staying at POR.

We are early risers and have no problem making rope drop. We will have hoppers. My plan is to hit a park at rope drop, take a swim break, then hop to another park. My plan is to schedule our FP+ at the second park. I would like to know how this has worked for others? We wil be staying 7 nights with 5 days of hopper tix.

Thanks for your help!

It worked out nicely for us to do that, too. It was great to be able to get to a park later in the day and do rides that are typically crowded.

This is what I did in December with my DW and DD(7). We would be out early in 1 park like MK or AK and then set dinner and FP+ for later in the evening. I think it was great. I didnt have to be at HS at 8 am in order to ride TSM at 730PM or be at Epcot at 8 am to ride soarin at 930PM so it worked out great i set the FP times around my ADR's.

It really is a great strategy Good luck and have fun.

PS DONT STRESS OUT ABOUT IT:scared1:

Did exactly this last week. Worked perfectly! Have a magical time :)

Sounds like a good plan. We used that strategy a couple of nights last month. It was nice getting to DHS at 4:00 PM knowing we already had a FP time for Toy Story Midway Mania lined up. Under the old system, if you weren't there by 9:30 am to get a FP you were stuck waiting in the 2 hour line.

I actually scheduled our FP+ for our first park, usually ending around 2:00 and will reschedule them as needed for hopping later to another park if the SB line is short enough. I just didn't want to plan both my RD park AND my evening park. LOL

We didn't hop, but we did the mid-day break and then went back a couple of times. It worked great for us, but, we did throw away a few FP+ when we decided to stay at the resort one night instead of going back.

I also would rope drop and then start my FP+ around noon on days that I had dinner plans, like on our Hoop Dee Doo Revue night. You still get to maximize the short lines in the morning and effectively tour during the busier hours of 11-2.

Enjoy!!

We don't usually hop but we're always at the parks for RD. We usually can see almost everything during EMH/after RD so we make our FP+ for the afternoon or 2nd park.

We've started to go back to the resort during the day. Honestly, OP, I think your plan will work well!

Our three boys (ages 14, 13 and 7) used to be complete ride junkies, and to some extent, our older boys still feel that way. We used a combination of FP and child swap, went all day in the parks and they rode their favorites (Space, Splash, Big Thunder for example) up four times in a day each. But a few years ago, we changed our touring style. My husband was entirely burnt out and our youngest is just wired differently than the older two, so commando was not going to work in the long term.

For the past few years, we've done rope drop, swim break and then hop to another park - just as you are planning. The difference from your family is that our evening hop has always been for dinner and maybe a few non-headliner rides.

So with FP+, we'll do rope drop and then schedule our FP+ when the park starts to get busy - around 10:30 for a 9am opening at MK, for example. I'm concerned that lines would get too long at our morning park around 10:30 because that's usually when we started to use FP under the old system. And we have a very low wait tolerance - no more than 15 minutes for a ride - 20 would be a stretch, so we would not fare well post-11am on a busy day in MK! With this plan, we won't have FP+ for the evening hop, but again, we're usually not on headliner rides in the evening anyway. Just another thought, but might not work for true ride junkies, particularly if you have a higher wait time tolerance!
