FP+ and Room Reservation for AP Renewal

I have a room only reservation as of now at rack rate. 3 guests. 2 of us are AP holders and 1 will be a purchased multi-day ticket.

Our APs expire December 24. We will be renewing. I was hoping to "push" our renewal out until we get there on January 16 (still within the 30 day window). This is in hopes that our new expiration date would be in January of 2019. Why not push them out for the extra 20 something days that I know for sure will not be using it.

Question 1
Can I still book a Passholder discount room when they are released for a date that extends PAST our expiration date? Looking at past releases, I would expect the end of October, which is still way before I could renew.

Question 2
Can I book FP+ reservations at the 60 day mark for a reservation that is past our renewal date?

My initial guess is that they would let me do both as if my AP were not expiring prior to the trip, but with the understanding that if I did not renew, I would be paying rack rate and have to purchase tickets to proceed with the trip.

Your new expiration date would be 12/24/2018 regardless of when you renew.

Related question: Can one book an AP-discount room if one is still within the 30-day renewal period but hasn't renewed yet?

Example: AP expires in January. In December (still plenty of time to renew), the AP holder wants to book an AP-discounted room for March. Can you do this? Or do they see that your AP expires in January and you have to wait until you renew in order to book the discounted room?

You do not even need to have any kind of AP or AP voucher/certificate in order to book an AP rate room.

You can wait until you have arrived at WDW that trip to buy an AP.

Yes, that means that anyone at any time can book an AP rate room and wait until they arrive to buy (or upgrade to) an AP.

Thanks! But don't you need an AP in order to book the reservation online? I think you can't even access that part of the WDW site without an AP.

Question 2 - If your AP expires 12/24/17 and your trip isn't until Jan 2018 the system will not let you book FPs for the dates in Jan without renewing the AP - to the system you do not have a ticket for Jan 2018. Just had this happen to a member of our party - she had to renew her FP before I could book FPs for her.

Thanks so much, DVC4US. I had a feeling about that. I intend to renew anyway, but I wanted to make sure when I had to do it. Thanks again!

Aaahhh. Went onto their site and tried see what happens when you press renew now. Turns out you can renew up to 60 days before your renewal date. I thought it was 30 days. I'll probably just renew around that time so there won't be any hiccups.

Normally, I would have just called Disney with the questions, but am trying to aid in keeping the lines open for those who need things taken care of now. Thanks for the replies.

You do need to be logged in with a valid AP to be able to see the AP rates on the WDW website. But apparently you can call Disney to book a room with the AP rate without a valid AP (just that you need to have one when you check in)!

Thanks. Do I understand this correctly?: In December, I have a valid AP and I'll be able to log on to the AP site and see the room rates for, say, February. But I won't be able to book it online unless I renew my AP first. However I will be able to book it over the phone even if my AP isn't renewed. Yes?

This was more complicated than I thought it might be! And thanks so much, everyone.

Anyone can call and booked an AP room if there is availability for that discount. For this past January when they released the AP discounts, since I knew I was upgraded my already bought tickets to an AP, I called and asked to check the AP rates for the resort I had booked and another I was thinking about switching. I just told the CM that I was planning to upgrade my tickets to an AP once I arrived at WDW.

I did not purchase my AP until about four or five hours after I arrived at the resort. That evening I had to stop by the front desk for a different matter and asked if they needed to see my AP, but I was told "no". I figure since my MDE had already updated to show my AP and that I had booked the room with that same MDE account, it must have been enough.

This is correct info.

1. If you can see the AP rate on-line, AFAIK, you can book that AP rate room on-line.
But, even if you can't book on line...

2. You can call and book the AP rate room anytime one is available, even if you don't have an AP.

Not even that.
You can check-in (even well before you arrive at WDW, using online check-in) before you have the AP.
You just need to get the AP during that trip that you have the AP room booked.
