Did anyone else experience the chaos that occurred in trying to exit MK the evening of the 4th? When I got home, I told people I could NOT literally just walk out of the park because it was just sheer gridlock. I don't think they believed me! Then I got a bright idea to wait for the train. Warning: the trains don't run just after the fireworks due to debris on the track they need to pick up. I waited for an eternity just for those trains to start running again so I could board at Frontierland and get off at Main Street. Wow, what a nightmare. I never thought I'd say this, but I was a bit on the cranky side not being able to "escape" MK!

We have experienced MK on the Fouth of July and we made a solemn vow never to do that day at MK again.

I really feel your pain! LOL!!! We have found a great alternative to MK for the 4th. Half the crowds and just as much fun...MGM!

Live and learn! ;)

We went to MGM and EPCOT for fireworks and then had to return to MK to get our car and that was about 11pm when we arrived. It was crowded more crowded than the other 2 parks we had been in that night so we decided to hang out for about an hour before actaully making our way to the lot.

We left at about 12am and got to our car at 1am due to the wait for the tram. We took the resort monorail over to the TTC which was odd that while the ride was PACKED by very rude people cramming there families i was surprised they let the thing leave that stuffed! The Express monrail however had a huge line so why they weren't directing people to use both monorails I am not sure.

Our real lesson was at the tram we hadn't parked in the MK lot in about 15 years and the pople waiting in line were soooooo rude  my husband was in line right behind me and some woman in a party of about 25 shoved him and threw her kid on and then she climbed; in my husband was able to get on the same tram but on the other side of the bench. We were not happy and I told her exactly what I thought. We're going next year and staying at the CR to walk back and forth that night b/c that tram IS NOT worth it!

We spent July 4th in MK in 2002 ~ Never Again !!!! Not even if they gave us the vacation for nothing.

I have to disagree with the previous opinions of the parks on the fourth. My family just got back from a Disney cruise, but we went to the parks the week before. We started out at the MK on the 4th, prepared for mass people. We even did the early open for fear of the park cutting off admission. We arrived at the MK around 7:30 and were in line for Space Mountain by 7:45. My dad, my aunt, and I spent a grand total of 20 minutes waiting and riding Space Mountain. My family finished the "big" rides (ie. Space Mountain, Big Thunder, Haunted Mansion, etc.) all by 10:30 in the morning. We were amazed by the lack of crowds; I personally thought it was more crowded the week after Easter. We did opt to go to MGM for their "special" fireworks and were sorely disappointed by the 10 minute "special", but hey- they can't all be as good as IllumiNations now can they?

We just got back from WDW. On the 4th, we had dinner at Chef Mickey's, watched the fireworks from the Contempory and then walked to MK...It was crowded on main street but after that we rode all the mountains, jungle cruise, and buzz twice.. no real lines to speak of.. left the park at 12:30 and walked right onto our resort bus..

We spent all of July 4th at Epcot. It was crowded (for Epcot), but definitely doable. There were even restaurants that you could probably have walked into without a PS.

We had a wonderful time and thought the fireworks and the projections on Spaceship Earth were fantastic.

The only problem was the bus wait at the end of the evening. Even though we hung around and walked SLOWLY out of the park, we had over an hour wait to get back to POR. There were at least 500 people in line (I'm not exagerating). But only for POR. By the time we got on a bus, at least 9 had come for POR and there were no lines for any other resort.
