# four on the way

Since we're onto personal questions here...Can I honestly ask you what you are doing to be permanently safe??? My guess is that you only THINK you are being permanently safe. Since abstinence is the ONLY 100% foolproof method of birth control. I know people who had tubes tied, vasectomy, on the pill (and religious about taking it on time), rythm method, just about every other type - they still are only 99% to 99.8%or so effective (and only then if it is done/taken exactly correctly - which a lot do not do every single time)....you do the math - even if we're talking .01% of pregnancies - that's a LOT of 'surprise' babies when you consider the sheer numbers of people using birth control.

So, saying that - are you still sure you're permanently safe?

As I originally stated we are 98-99% sure we are safe. Do keep in mind that someone who has had a full hysterectomy, ovaries & tubes removed is safe.

Obviously, I was referring to those people who have all the parts necessary for producing and then fertilizing an egg. There are lots of people in this world who do not have all those things....but then, if that was a fact I would doubt they'd be much concerned about birth control (only std control in that case).

I'm just surpised someone who is as knowledgeable on the subject as you seem to be would be so surprised at 'accidents' or 'not planned' babies. Your original post made it seem like in today's society- if you don't want a baby, you don't get one. Which, in many cases, is only assuradly the case if you abstain. So, I guess by this that you're not really suprised since really 1% of 1 million is 10000 babies - so that's a lot - since there are way more than a million couples utilizing birth control- and I'm also guessing by your most recent post - that it COULD BE YOU next.

I am raising the white flag. I only asked a question & have since become more knowledgeable. I don't come hear to stir the pot, in fact I asked the question/ made the statement out of curiosity. I do not know of anyone who has had a surpise baby. I say i do not know of anyone because perhaps I know someone who has been surprised but just has not shared that info. I have posted other ?'s on other threads- for example a home schooling question so that I become better versed on the subject. With that being said I ask that you cut me some slack.

White flag waved back.

We're all blessed with whatever number of children we end up with!

I only have twins at this point but am the oldest of 6 - and I loved it. Congratulations to the OP - we are hoping to have 4 eventually!! The thing that was a big help in our family was a sense of humor. It is going to get overwhelming and busy and if you can't laugh at yourselves you will be in big trouble!! But go to Disney with 4. My parents never took us and we were quite sad. I am planning to make up for that with my kids!!! ;)

Not to re-stir the pot, but I would just like to point out that many people who don't use birth control for religious reasons use natural family planning, which is different from the rythm method as it doesn't use the calendar but uses changes in your body to predict ovulation. When used accurately it has 98-99% efficacy as well. It works very well for those with irregular cycles as well as those with regular cycles. Just FYI! And while it is great to hope that your particular method is 100% effective it's amazing what can happen in the light of "perfectly" used birth control. Some kids just are determined to be born!!!!

Riverside was wonderful! Because the baby was just a year, Disney counted him as an infant, and our dd was only two so she also didn't really count. They did set up a pack and play in our room that the baby slept in. One full bed had my dd and my ds (who was just five at the time) and the other full bed was for my DH and I (or at least that was the plan, but more often than not, it was me with dd, and him with ds! :rotfl2: ) and then they have a pull out trundle bed that my oldest ds (who was 8 at the time) slept in. Worked out great! Actually we had more room than at home, when it seems like all of our children somehow migrate to our one queen size bed in our bedroom each night!

Enjoy baby #4!

Jennifer

I'll probably be flamed but I have to ask- How does everyone have all these "Surprise" babies? Don't you practice birth control or if you're religious the rythm method? Let's face it were not kids here & to me I have no idea how anyone has an "accident".

i was half asleep and it was very ealy in the morning:lmao:

Yeah if we let our kids they would all end up in our bed. Sometimes in the mornings they file in one after another. My husband and I were joking around saying we will probally have to get a bigger bed with four on the way. Do they make them larger then a King. What makes me sad sometimes is when you tell people and they look at you like you have two heads. Like why on earth would you want that many kids. It makes me sad to think about it because I love all my children and they make me so happy. I couldn't imagine life without them they are blessings. Some of my family was shocked my Grandfather was not excited at all. I thought he would be but I can understand my grandmother died a couple months ago and I guess It makes him sad that he can't share it with her. He was so appy about the other children. Has anyone ever seen the movie Parenthood? Well in that movie they say raising children is like riding a rollercoaster and it is so true. You have moments when you are sick in your stomach, moments when things are so crazy hectic scary and you scream, but then you are down the hill and it is calm and you can take a deep breath and sigh and then it starts all over again. I love roller coasters and I love my children. If you guys haven't seen Parenthood watch it it is sooooo funny!:rotfl2:

I had only heard about the rythm method. I may have confused the 2. You learn something new every post! I have something to share- I have a very religious friend who has 7 children & when her & her husband "get together" they are trying and expecting to make a baby. No birth control for them, my guess is that is natural family planning. She has told me that they will have children until her body or his body no longer allows them to & then they will no longer "get together".

Congrats to the OP.
I have 5 children and love them all. DD25, DS22, DS20, DD11, and DS8. As you can see the last 2 are spaced far from the first 3. We wanted more children and could not conceive, so we adopted the last 2. What a blessing they are to our family. :goodvibes We can not imagine life without them.
I too homeschool and have for 16 yrs. I don't know what life would be like without kids around me and the chaos of them all. :grouphug: The first 2 are gone now and # 3 works full time, but our family is very close and the older ones call everyday just to check in.
At every stage in their lives there will be challenges, but enjoy it. One of the most fun times was when the older 3 were teenagers. They were so much fun to have around. Life was never boring.:dance3:

We too bought a camper to take them all to DW. We had all of us and Grandma too in that camper. That was a blast. We really could not have taken that trip if it were not for camping.

The age difference didn't seem to matter. The older ones enjoyed being with the little one and watching their surprise and wonder at all that they saw at DW. That was probably our last family trip together. It makes me sad to think about it. :sad1: I would love for the married ones to join us next year so we can have a family picture taken in front of Cinderella's castle. That would be the ultimate gift for Christmas, Birthday and Mothers day all in one.

Oh, one last note. If God would bless us now with # 6 we would be over joyed, :cool1: but at this point since it's been almost 21 years since my last pregnancy my Dh and I would probably end up in ER with heart attacks. :upsidedow But anything is possible.:)

Well, birth control also has a decent failure rate, you know.:confused3

No thank you; I understand how birth control works (and sometimes doesn't)!:rotfl:

In my original post I asked a question & got some great answers, there was some confusion & everything was cleared up. I can't figure out why someone would try to rehash everything. I feel sorry for someone who has to chime in after the fact, IMHO they are just starting trouble. I just don't get it? :confused3

:rolleyes1

I hadn't read ALL of the responses when I originally responded to you. I hope that clears up the confusion.

I have a friend with 5 kids and they are so well-behaved. Very nice family. The kids have chores and responsibilities. And have you seen the show where they have 16 kids? A really nice, well organized family. I think you are going to have chaos or organized chaos, regardless of how many kids you have. I know families with only 2 (horrible) kids, so you know...

Congratulations!!!

congrats! we actually have twins and i think about having another all the time..its hard though because when people find out yo have twins the first thing out of their mouth is" your not planning on having another are you?"i wish people would keep their mouths shut sometimes..that really makes me second guess myself..good luck..im sure it'll be fun:goodvibes

Congratulations! :) I have 5 and would have loved another but it didn't happen!!! Honestly, it's not a big difference at all from 3-4.
