HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOPSMOM!!!!

CONGRATS WHGRN!!!!

We just had one heck of storm blow through here. Quarter size hail and very strong winds. There was even a tornado spotted in Reading. It's heading east so whgrn, be careful if it heads your way.

.

Marie: I stopped by your thread. I can tell you that my very first time going to WDW was a little overwhelming. One mistake we made was going to MK our first night there. It was all ready dark and getting around the park was very confusing.

I couldn't believe how big WDW was. The parks themselves weren't bad but the distance between them makes the whole place massive!

On our first trip we flew down and used Disney Transportation. On our second trip Dec 2008, we drove down and used our vehicle to get around. We stayed onsite so we didn't need to pay for parking at each park; we just showed our parking pass that was given to us at our resort. My DH liked using our own transportation better. We are early risers so we were always at the park for rope drop and finding a parking spot wasn't an issue (Thanks Magikitty!;)). We parked at the TTC a few times and used the Monorail and the Ferry to get to MK. Loved the Ferry!

We did the Hoop-Dee-Doo the first year we went and we LOVED IT! So much in fact that we are planning to do it again this year, Out of Pocket!(All those extra hours I'm working are good for something:goodvibes) We did the Spirit of Aloha in 2008 but I didn't like it as much. If you like corny jokes and slapstick then the Hoop-Dee-Doo is for you!

Sci-Fi: I liked, DH didn't. Kids enjoyed it except DS11 didn't like what he ordered. He thought the food was just ok and he didn't like the seating. I thought the food was good and sitting in the cars was neat. I also liked the movie trailers and there was even a Tom & Jerry cartoon shown that the kids liked. We both loved the shakes though!:thumbsup2

If your family loves to eat then Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge will fill them up. We had so much food!

I was just thinking about all the places we ate during both trips and WOW!

I know you are all going to have a great time, ecspecially because I'm going to be there!

Oh yeah, I love my Passporter!

Awww, you guys are so sweet!!!!

Happy Birthday Bopsmom!!!! :cake:

Yeah, my DH was definitely Dopey. And Grumpy, too. Maybe that's why he's the ex now???:lmao:

Racetrack, the storm has arrived. Just after we got home from DD's swim practice, all of a sudden it started pouring buckets! SO glad I didn't have to drive in that! And we had about a 20 minute thunderstorm too. Seems to have passed by us now.

It was actually 70 degrees here today! I was only expecting upper 50s, so I was very pleasantly surprised! Hope it continues to be warm--I am SO ready for spring!

We are now watching the DVR'd Kids' Choice Awards. Barf. Obviously, I am paying WAY more attention to the DIS... OMG, this is totally nauseating!!! (the TV, not the DIS!) And of course, the kids are glued to the set.

Well, off to continue trying to find my camera, which has myseteriously disappeared. Naturally, the kids have NO idea where it could be, despite the fact that both of them have been known to fool around with it. It darn well better turn up soon!

whgrn, I had the wonderful honor of watching the kids choice awards last night. I'm just thankful that we didn't record it and will not have to watch it again. Once was more than enough for me.

Our afternoon was spent watching Disney On Ice. Kinda fun. I took may camera and got about 4 shots before my camera died. I thought I had brought the extra battery but it wasn't in it's little case thingy.... rather it was still home in the plug in charger. Oh well. For a change I got to watch the show instead of concentration on taking pictures. . Sat beside a man whose after shave just about made me sick and in front of a kid who kept kicking me and turning on his noisy light up spinning toy. At least we had really good seats so if I concentrated really hard on the show I could almost ignore most of the other distractions. Oh yeah, if you go ask how much the souvenir cup is before you order it from the walk around vendors. DH grabbed 2 for us... 20 bucks! And they are not even dishwasher safe! Came home with a killer headache so I'm not really reflecting on the trip at all cheery right now.

I think I have to amend my comparison of my DH to a dwarf. He is actually more of a combo of Dopey, Goofy and Grumpy. :rotfl:

racetrack18kb, of course we knew you meant DH is sweet and kind hearted! What else could you have possibly meant? :lmao:
Glad the tornados dodged you!

pepperw23, I am glad to know that someone knows of someone that stays offsite and who enjoyed themselves. I've read about them and I intend to be one of them! With all the rentals in the WDW there must be a lot of people who do not always stay onsite. If money was no object I would probably stay right there on Disney property too. It just so happens for this trip a house is what is gonna work for us.
So, how was your "virtual vacation"?

DL55, for the most part I didn't think most people were being overly snippy. Just the fact that several of them seemed so single minded that I felt the need to defend my decision which was what annoyed me a bit. I'm better today. My thread has already descended to page 5 so it may die a quick death anyway! I may check into the Whoop De Do. It sounds like something at least some of us would like. I'll just drag the others along with me!

MagiKitty, how many times have you stayed offsite? Do you have a favorite place? There are so many choices! We could probably swing staying onsite but I am a tightwad and really my family just does not put that much stock into staying in a luxury hotel. We are more likely to spend extra on meals or souvineers.
I am sure we will be fine with the driving. DH has a very good sense of direction and I am pretty good too. The house we are staying at looks to be pretty direct to one of the main roads so I don't forsee any problems. Amen to the extra tvs! We usually sit down and watch a movie all together while we eat supper. After that DD and I will probably fall asleep but the guys will have their own tvs to watch whatever they want. DD likes to watch the Disney channel in the morning so we have always enjoyed having tvs in each room. We will have 5 tvs this time! Nothing like having plenty of entertainment and space for our kids to spread out at the end of a long, tiring day!
It really wouldn't take but one bad experience on a bus to put my DH in a bad mood for the whole trip. People person he is not. I'm not even sure he likes us sometime! :confused3 Also he is such a control freak I think he will much prefer being in charge of when we come and go. Needless to say, those are a few more reasons I opted not to rely on Disney transportation.

BKMETV, wise advice...take and ignore. I like it!
Thanks for the hint about TGM being a scary place. I'll be on guard! I've barely even scratched the surface there yet so I haven't even ventured to their forum so far. This WDW research stuff is a lot more complicated than any that I ever have done for DL! Thank heavens I have 8 months to make plans. I will keep the green days in mind for sure. It already looks like I may have to convince the ranks that going to MK the first day may not be the best option. Right now I am going from last year's schedule. Here's hoping that when the calendar is updated for December we will get lucky and hit a green day for MK on our first day.

Hi Bopsmom! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! It sounds like you have been a busy girl lately!

YIPPEE for whgrn! I am in AWE! :worship: Really! I have got to do something myself. Currently I am at the most I have ever weighed.
NOT GOOD! :sad2: Got any good tips?
Hope you find the camera!

LivinInTheCastle, I hope your tooth gets feeling better before you have to head to the dentist.

D&DDisney
, Oh yeah, it's easy to offer encouragement and advice to others. But I still have a hard time taking my own advice when my own kid is the one driving me batty! Thankfully, they are going easy on me today!

Pikester, thanks for your input. I am planning to expect MK to be huge. Guess there's still nothing like really being there. I am thinking we will just take in one park per day and no hopping so as to minimize the amount of time we spend traveling between parks. It is good to know that even if we have our own vehicle we can still use the Disney transportation if we so desire. I've already got a AAA parking pass so we will be able to park closer to the front, even though we will still have to pay the parking fee but I am positive we will enjoy having our own car enough to outweigh the expense of parking.
Corny jokes and slapstick... right up our alley! Hoop-Dee-Doo here we come! I think my bunch would probably like Sci-Fi too. At least we are gonna give it a try. I don't think I've heard or read about Whispering Canyon Cafe. I will check into that one too. We will have to compare notes when our trips get closer and see if we will be in the same park on any of the same days. Maybe we can at least meet up and say hi.

Night all.... gonna go sleep if I can sleep my headache away.

Ok, I'm really struggling with this....but....Good morning (grr....!). Its snowing here. Not big fat flakes, but the small kind that likes to stay. I'm trying to keep positive here, but boy, did that rub me the wrong way. I put my winter coats away this weekend. I'm layering under a spring jacket and hoping for the best.

Happy happy birthday Hollly and daughter! Hope you had wonderful magical days to celebrate each other!

I did not watch the kids awards. Didn't even know such things existed.

I am playing really bad Aunt on my trip with the nieces. They do not know character dining exists (heck, I didn't even know until last year). They do not know about BBB. I figure the less they know, I can avoid any breakdowns of disappointment. We are even going to EPCOT our first evening, MK the next day. Disney is even overwhelming for me, how much more for them?

Marie, I don't even want to think of all the times I've been to Disney, mostly offsite. Our family has a timeshare, although we don't use our week. For some reason, if we trade our one week, we get two weeks elsewhere. So I've stayed mostly through timeshare exchange. We've stayed at Liki Tiki, Star Island, Palms Resort, and this time we're staying at Parkway International. Before we book, I check the reviews on epinions, tripadvisor, and travelocity. We haven't had any issues (knock wood!).

I'm also horribly, disgustingly frugal. I have no shame when it comes to discounts and coupons. While I fantasize for one night at the Grand Floridian, the practical side of me absolutely knows I wouldn't be able to spend that kind of money for 24 hours! I just like clean, safe, with tv. We're get up and go people too. We leave early am, and get back late. We don't even come back mid-afternoon for a break. We just find a show and sit for a while somewhere in the park.

Wendy, did you find your camera? Is it on vacation with my bluetooth headset?

Have a good day everyone!

A belated Happy Birthday to Bopsmom
mariezp Off site sounds like the right choice for you. :thumbsup2
MagiKitty A stay at the Grand Floridian is just a fantasy for me too. Unless I win the lottery. :wizard:

I am the same way when we stay in hotels. Just want some place that is cheap but clean, and safe (and hopefully w/ free breakfast so I can save there too.)

Fantisizing about the GF too. Last year we went resort hopping and just walked through the GF with our mouths open - drooling. :cloud9: Wouldn't it be nice to stay here?

Kitty - When are you going for bouncing back free dining? Is it in Aug?

Hi D&D! How's the weather for you? our bounceback dates are Sept. 29-Oct 6. Its a very busy time! end of free dining, Food & Wine, and MNSSHP! We are definitely going to the Halloween party this year. We usually treat ourselves to a shared Wishes cruise, but this year we're putting the money towards party tix. I can't imagine the trick or treating! my goal is to get a picture with Maleficent and Urusla. Although, you may not be able to tell which is Ursula and which is me!

Grand Floridian is my absolute favorite. Its so girly. I would love to do afternoon tea there, but my BF (sorry) is not the tea-type and would probably ruin it for me!

:wizard: to you DL55 on winning the lottery! I hope for that one too! We have a yearly subscription that is running out soon. Played twice a week for a year automatically and all we ever won was $3! :rotfl2: Might not renew...

I see the boards are going to be down again tonight at 10PM EST. Just a heads up if you didn't know that all ready. :thumbsup2

Rain, Rain, go away!!!!!! It's been raining all day today! All I want to do is go take a nap.

There is nothing wrong with be frugal Magikitty! I wish I could be more like you but I don't have the patience for it.

Marie: I think meeting could be fun! I hope we are able to find a time to do so. Feel free to ask any of us here on the TKer thread questions about WDW. One of us should have an answer or at the very least be able to point you in the direction to find it.

Well, I'm off to cook supper!

Hey!!!! Weather really stinks here. It's very cool and extremely windy. Nothing like spending the day listening to my windows rattle.

I really have no desire to stay at the GF. It just doesn't appeal to me. Now, I would love to stay at the Poly. I just love the theming there.

D&D, you won yesterday!!!!! :cool1::yay: And you made my DH mad. He was so sure that he had won....was bragging before the points were posted. I think you ruined his night. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

marie, we'd all be happy to answer any questions you may have. And we'll even be nice about it. :goodvibes

Hello, hope all is well with everyone. We had some hail here yesterday and some snow overnight. It's a bit warmer now.
My tooth is still killing me! I left the dentist a message that I had a major toothache that I need help with ASAP, he isn;t open today but I hope they call in the morning. And if not, my husband had an appointment to have a crown put on--but they will be seeing ME instead!!!

Hi LITC!!!! Sorry to hear about your tooth. It seems as though this stuff always happens when the doctor/dentist office is closed.

How are things otherwise?

Hi Race, otherwise not to bad. Getting excited for our trip! Only 32 days til check in! I can't wait to get away.
How are things going for you?

It's going ok. DH's job is s**king right about now. He works in construction and normally things should be picking up right about this time of year. But in between the crazy weather and the economy, the work isn't there like usual.

I was just saying tonight to someone else, that I'm starting to get excited about our vacation too. It's taken a while but now I really can't wait. I just want to sit by the pool with DH while have a nice fruity, frozen drink while we watch the kiddoes.
