Four Generations Driving from BC to Disneyland!

Who: My grandma, my mom, me, my two kiddlets (ds-5, dd-1)
What: Driving down to Disneyland
When: We will be leaving home on Jan 13th, and will check in at DL from the 15th-20th, then will drive back home, hopefully arriving home on the 22nd.
Where: Staying at the Paradise Pier Hotel, Premium Park View, concierge level (got a super duper TA rate, otherwise we could never afford to stay here!)

So who's with me on this trip report?? I promise it will be fun! :yay::woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay:

We are driving from BC, Canada, going to leave on the late afternoon/evening of the 13th to get a head start on driving. We are expecting many potty/food/leg stretching breaks since we have a 5yr old (well he will be 5 on the 20th) and a 16 month old.

Chapters: (I'll post links to each chapter here as I write them)
1) A little more about us and our plans
2) Some Random Pre-Trip Info
3) 4 More Days!
4) ONE More Day!
5) Driving Down, and Arriving at PPH
6) 1st park day, part 1
part 1 continued
7) 1st park day, part 2
7) Our "rest" day (pool, TA tour, Goofy's Kitchen)

A little more about us and our plans

My Grandma - She had a stroke a long time ago and still has some mobility issues from it. She only has the use of one arm, and is slow moving. She can't stand for long periods of time so we will be bringing along her ECV/scooter with us. This will be her first time to Disneyland.

My Mom - Loves Disney just as much as I do! Loves going with her grandkids! It was her idea to go to Disneyland again so soon (we had gone in September). She has been about a half dozen times before.

Me - I love Disney, very much. I feel that Disney is safe, clean, family fun! I have been to DL 5 times before.

DS - He will be 5 years old on the 20th, been to DL once before. He is very excited to be going again, he has a countdown chain in his room and everything! He is my wild boy too! He has been on Thunder Mountain, Splash and Space before and LOVED them. He's dissapointed that he cant go on Indy or California Screamin :(

DD - She will be 17 months on the 18th, been to Disneyland once. She liked the tea cups, fell asleep on IASW and sat nicely on all the Fantasyland rides :) She really seems to like the characters too, she would just squeel when she'd see them!

So that is us. DH will be staying home this time, to slave away at work. This will be my first time away from him actually, since we were married 7 years ago!

My mom was the one who originally brought up going on another Disney trip. She wanted to take her mom on a nice trip. They were looking at a Disney cruise to the Mexican Riviera to start with, but then I found out about a great Travel Agent deal for Disneyland! I told my mom about it and we agreed that we just couldn't pass it up, and DH gave the go ahead too, so it was settled!

We were just going to get a standard room at the PPH, but then asked about concierge add on. When we heard the price ($40 extra/day for 5 people) he couldn't resist! We are positive that we will get more than our moneys worth from it. We can eat breakfast in the lounge, take drinks and snacks with us into the parks and come back in the evening for a hot appetizer! Not sure if we will be able to eat all of our meals from the lounge, I'm guessing we will want one proper meal each day, either lunch or dinner, but the lounge will certainly cover the rest of our food for the day. :thumbsup2

We will be checking in on the 15th and then going into the parks on the 16th, 18th and 19th. On the 17th I have a TA presentation to attend for a couple hours so we decided to take that day as a "down day" to spend in the pool, explore downtown Disney, etc.... and mom will watch the kids while I attend the presentation.

We check out on the 20th and begin our trek back home, hopefully arriving home on the 22nd.

We're hoping to stop in to the Disney Warehouse/Outlet store, probably on the 15th after checking in. I found a 10% discount coupon from the Anaheim visitor center website for there. Hopefully we can find some good deals and get some of our souvenir shopping done right away at a discount.

We are 10 DAYS from leaving and getting pretty excited. Haven't started packing yet, but will probably do that a couple days before we go. We've already done a dry run to see how the scooter and double stroller will fit in the van, and it looks like it will be smooth sailing from that aspect :)

Well I guess that is it for now. I'll leave you with a couple of photos from our last trip to Disneyland to hold you over!

I'm in - sounds like a fun road trip! I've never stayed at an on-site hotel so I'll be anxious to hear how that went and how you liked the "extras". Enjoy your trip and have a safe drive!

I picked up a small backpack (only $5!!) to bring with us for in the parks. It is big enough to carry my DSLR camera and some snacks/drinks for in the parks.
I have been looking for a small bag that will hold those items, so that I could just easily grab it out of the buggy when we go on a ride or into a show, and now I've found one :)

I also picked up a new game for DS's leap pad (shhh, don't tell him yet). I'm going to keep it a surprise until we are on the road, and when he starts getting board I'm going to pull it out for him to play with. That way it is something new and will keep him busy for awhile.

I was hoping to find something new for DD(17 months) but I have no idea what might keep her busy for a long car ride. She has dolls and some random other toys (play phone, little people, etc). I guess that will have to do, lol.

Does anyone know what the restrictions are for bringing food with us unto the US??
I was planning on bring snacks into the car with us for the kids (baby food, granola bars, pudding, etc). I wonder if I can bring yogurt and/or fruit with us if it is to be consumed in the car? Do they allow that (considering that kids need snacks)?

Hmmm, I'll have to check out the border website I guess...

Getting closer now! DS is getting excited, I'm excited, DD doesn't really know whats going on yet, lol. I know my mom is super excited to go, and I'm hoping my grandma is too.
I'm planning on lots of photos of my Grandma during our trip, after all this could be her only trip down to DL, (and she refused to fly anywhere, lol) so I want to capture every moment of it for her.

Only 8 days to go!

Here are a few more photos from our last trip for you again :)

Glad to have you aboard!
The only time I've stayed onsite at DL was when I was probably about 5 or so, but we didn't actually go into the parks, it was just a one night stay during a road trip, lol, and I certainly don't remember it!)

I'm really looking forward to being onsite, that coupled with the concierge and I think I'm going to feel pampered and not want to come home! It might spoil good neighbor hotels for ever now!

Can't wait to read more. :)

Unfortunately we are still during the few days before the trip when it is the most boring, lol. Not much longer though and then I'll have some exciting trip posts! I hope to update in the evenings during our trip as much as I can while the day is fresh in my head :)

Only 4 and a half more days to go!

Trying to make sure all the little things are done and ready. I've printed off a few coupons for restaurants in the area, a couple are for .99 cent kids meals at the rainforest cafe :)

I think tomorrow I'm going to pull out the suitcase tomorrow and start slowing getting things into it. I'll be doing laundry, making sure everything that we want to have with us is clean and ready to go. I've got a box going already with random things to bring, water bottle, kid backpack/leash (don't laugh, it's super helpful when the little one wants to be down on the ground walking but you don't want her to run off!).
Mom picked up a couple of movies for the kids to watch on the drive down.

I need to make sure we have snack stuff to bring with us, but only prepackages stuff that can go across the border with us, anything else will have to wait until after we have crossed.

So excited to be going! Disney really is my happy place!

And some more photos from our last trip :)

At least you have a good plan - it is better to pack slowly. I am usually throwing things in at the last minute and next thing you know I'm missing half my stuff. I feel like I overpack - then I don't have enough when I get there. It is ridiculous! My trip is still 5 months off so 4 days seems like a dream...

The pictures are great - you have a nice looking family!

Looking forward to reading your trip report in anticipation for my trip coming up in March.

I did want to point out that even after you get across the US border you can't bring outside fruits and veggies into California. They have stops at the California border and they ask if you have any produce and will possibly confiscate it. I don't know their parameters for taking it:confused3, so I just don't bring anything across the state line. And sometimes they will stop you and sometimes they won't just depends.

Thank you for that info, I wasn't aware of the California border not allowing fruits/veggies!
Will have to make sure we eat up any produce we may have at that point!

Last time I had to pack a bag I forgot our swimsuits! It was only a small trip, nowhere fun like Disney, but we wanted to swim at the hotel we were staying at. We ended up swimming in our underwear (well I had on DH's boxers and a shirt, lol).
No mishaps like that for me this time!

Sounds like a fun trip you have planned!

Just FYI, I don't think you can bring fruit across the border into Washington at all. They seem to be very particular about citrus fruits and apples for some reason.
Processed and packaged things should be okay though, like fruit snacks, applesauce in the little plastic containers, etc...

Have a wonderful time! Can't wait to hear more about your trip!

Thanks for the heads up, I guess we'll keep to the packaged stuff for the borders :)

We are leaving tomorrow! Yay!

Clothing is mostly packed. Just a couple of new items to wash and pack :)
All of our "papers" are in a special folder for easy access.
Cameras are charged, DS's leappad is charged :)
"entertainment" bag for the kids is still in the works...
still need to update the GPS before we go...
need to get some snacks together...
"bathroom" bag is open on the counter with everything in it, once we use it for the last time tomorrow (toothbrush/etc) I'll close it up and throw it in the suitcase too.

I keep thinking that I'm missing something but I can't think of it. It's weird getting ready and not having DH running around with me, lol. It's going to be so odd without him on this trip!

My mom should be bringing her van over tonight so that I can start loading our things in it, then tomorrow we will go pick her up from work around noon, and head out!!!
Hoping to get to Seattle/Tacoma area or so before stopping. We want to be over the boarder and onto the I5 before dark.

Weather took a sudden drop here at home, we were at 10*C not long ago, and now it's been -10*C, it snowed, and now everything is icy! There was a 5 or 6 semi truck pile up on the highway just out of town a few days ago, the same highway we will be taking tomorrow! I sure hope the roads are ok when we go! Slow and steady I guess!

If all goes well I may even be able to update tomorrow night if our hotel has internet! So stay tuned for some TR fun tomorrow night!

Have fun and stay safe on the roads!
Looking forward to your trip report...we're considering a road trip next year and we're from BC too. :goodvibes

Hope you're having a good drive down! Have a super vacation!! Can't wait to read about it :)

I so hope you made it over the passes before snow hit. You got out of town just in time. SW WA snowed all night sat 14th and then flurries into the 15th off and on. Kids sure had fun sledding. I hope you are enjoying sun and warm hugs from Mickey and friends. Drive safe home. Looking forward to reading all about your adventure.

Patty
