How many min points do you have to buy at DL to be considered as a founding member?
If we add on to our current membership could we still be considered as one? Or is it only for brand new member?

Thank you! :goodvibes

There's really nothing special about being a "founding member." In fact, the only time the term has even been promoted by DVC was at AKV where they are putting the "founding members" name on a tapestry. There are no perks or privileges associated with it.

Don't they get first dibs on GCV tho? :lovestruc I know it's still a long way out but I'm trying to form a plan... hehe...

We received the GCV founding member status with an add on of 100 points at the DL event in May. That was the minimum that would give that status. But I think that may have been a special offer available only then and it's possible it now takes 160 points, which is what it had been prior to then.
According to our paperwork we will then have first dibs at buying up to 160 points.

Shoot... I was hoping they'd have a 25 or 50pt min...

I believe the OP is asking about the GC Founding Member program. The min purchase through a DL DVC guide is 100 points in order to get into the FM program for GC.

How nice of DVC to use the same wording to mean several different things.

We just added on at DL and were given founding member status. We did 160 pts vs. 100 for the extras of the $500 disney rewards for using our disney visa. We also were given 2 annual passes for either WDW or DL with the 160 pts. along with the $8 ppt off that was put towards the down payment (the minimum is $500 down out of pocket) We really want the contemporary but this was too good of a deal to pass up! Don't know if or how many VGC points we'll add on--depends on the Contemporary---but we did like the look of the new villas out there. But, I was also extremely happy with our 1 br suite at DLH on the 14th floor of the wonder tower with the most amazing views and higher ceilings and 2 real balconies too! At only 46 pts weekdays, it was a great deal compared to the 36 pts for a theme park view room at GCH just prior. We do like both hotels so neither would be a problem for us!

Oh, and no dues till May 2009 and a bonus matching set of 160 pts for SSR/II/DL!

I agree, very confusing! Personally I don't think you'll need to be in the FM program in order to purchase GC with the current economy, I think it's just a sales tactic. However, it did give me a great excuse to change our UY from Feb to Aug so when we add on it will be with an Aug UY.

Hmm... I must be missing something.
What other definition is out there for founding member?

Thank you!

Founding member apparently means a) Buying an existing DVC resort while at DL to give you the right to pre-purchase GCV before other members AND b)being the first few hundred (or thousand) members to buy AVK so your name would appear on a tapestry.

Two entirely different things, one being buying a special right to pre-buy another resort and the other simply being the first members to purchase at a resort to have your name noted.

Those are the only two instances where DVC has even used the term "founding members." There were no "founding members" in that context for any of the other DVC resorts.

Ooooh... thank you.
No wonder we're confused.
Thanks for the clarification.
