Found this great article o keep Amazon Prime cheap !

thanks for the heads up! I do want to to keep it for another year, and I just did it! I also 'paid' for it with my gift card balance in my account, so even better!:cool1:

Thanks! Just sent myself a gift membership to start in December when my current membership expires.

Annoying, prime can't be purchased/gifted from the mobile site, I switch to the full site but when I click on my cart it switches back to the mobile site...
I've cancelled my auto renew when it comes up in August.

I couldn't find either..so I just changed my credit card to one that will expire at time of renewal so that it won't renew.

Our card was cancelled because of the Target issues, but when it came time to autorenew, Amazon tried to apply the charges to any card currently on the account ... so if you save any card info when you order, it'll just go down the list until it finds one "available."

Your renewal for the upcoming year will remain at $79. Then the NEXT renewal will be at $99 - as per Amazon. I was in chat with them last night to confirm this. So no need to give them the $79 early as it isn't going to be saving you any money any way. :=)

That's strange my renewal in June would have been $99 as per customer service phone call ! Thus I renewed for $79 as a gift to myself in June ! My $99 won't kick in until June 2015 .............

There's definitely some unknown determination on the $79 vs $99 at play, I think; My Prime renews in July at $79, July 2015 will be at the $99.

My notification says my Prime will renew in July 2014 at $99, so this gift-myself-a-renewal idea sounds right to me!

I was on the fence about keeping it. I've only had Prime for one year, and I don't order a lot from Amazon, but love the streaming tv and movies. Just followed the great instructions to cancel on June 5th, and then gifted myself for $79. Thanks so much!!!
This way I will have another year to decide if it's worth it to continue....

folks, it's really simple to NOT auto renew..click on 'manage my prime' and check the no auto renew box..... my acct was charged 79.00 to renew as a gift to myself when it ends this spring, and I had already disabled auto renew......(2 days ago)

July 2014 will renew at 99 unless you cancel and gift it to yourself for 79.

And thanks to the person that started this thread :)

Mine expires in June 2014 and renewal was listed at $99. I just did the gift thing, very easy thanks to the OP.

No, mine will be $79 this year. That's what my email stated, my account dashboard and I even chatted with a rep to be triple sure. There were a couple people in the previous recent Prime thread who stated their renewal this year would also be $79; This is what I meant by there is some other factors that they may be taking into consideration on some accounts.

Guess there are some mixed up agents!

From Amazon:
Amazon Prime and Amazon Student Prime Membership Fee Changes

For the first time since it was introduced nine years ago, the price of Prime is going up. Existing Prime members will pay $99 per year on their annual renewal date and Amazon Student members will pay $49.

When I go to the manage my prime section of Amazon I see this message -

On December 02, 2014, you will be charged $79 for another year of Prime. Starting December 02, 2015, you will be charged $99 per year.

Click here to go to 'Manage your Prime' Section on Amazon

Here is what mine says :
"On June 05, 2014, you will be charged $99 for another year of Prime. "

Called and talked with a US rep and was told its a glitch in their system and will be corrected in a few weeks! Said $99 is the renewal price for ALL existing members !
Response from Customer service call:

Dear XXXXX XXXXXX,

We are writing to provide you advance notice that the price of your Prime membership will be increasing. The annual rate will be $99 when your membership renews on June 5, 2014.

Even as fuel and transportation costs have increased, the price of Prime has remained the same for nine years. Since 2005, the number of items eligible for unlimited free Two-Day Shipping has grown from one million to over 20 million. We also added unlimited access to over 40,000 movies and TV episodes with Prime Instant Video and a selection of over 500,000 books to borrow from the Kindle Owners' Lending Library.

For more information about your Prime membership, visit our Prime membership page.

Sincerely,

The Amazon Prime Team

One more way to save money on Prime is be sure to report it when your Prime shipment arrives past the due date. Prime shipment is guaranteed and they will add another month to your membership renewal date. DH has done this 3 times over the past year. One just the other day. Especially since the price increase, he wasn't going to just let it slide.

I will tell you, they don't make it easy. There is no giant button that says LATE PRIME SHIPMENT. You have to search and read the directions. But worth it. After all, that's what they promised.
I did not realize this. I just received some books (a day late). But, I can't seem to find the directions for reporting a late shipment. (Maybe they changed? )
