When we stayed at the YC back in 200 we requested a microwave FROM DISNEY and they provided one for our room. So obviously they are not a fire hazard.

If that were the case, you would have a designated and marked microwave outlet in every kitchen. You don't. There is no need, you can plug it into any standard outlet. Have you ever tripped a circuit in your house using the microwave? Me neither.

Actually DH moved our microwave to it's own circuit because we couldn't turn on the microwave and oven at the same time without tripping a circuit.

That's because "A conventional electric oven needs three times as much electricity to operate as a standard microwave oven." -http://www.lamaremc.com/microwave.htm. Don't blame the microwave.

Also, many standard ovens require 200 amp service. That very well may have been the problem.

I don't get going on vacation and stressing about bringing a microwave to cook food. You can either afford the vacation or not.

You then went on to say in a later post, "Nope, not being insensitive"

1st sentence was definitely your own opinion. But the second sentence about "affording" was being very insensitive. Actually, I was offended by it, and I'm not the OP. We just got back from VWL where we had a studio. Used my microwave to boil water for my tea, make oatmeal for breakie, kids had Alpha-getti to go along with their sandwiches for lunch on a couple of our pool days, micro popcorn for later night snack ... to name just a few examples of why someone might want a microwave in their room. I didn't get the impression that the OP was planning on cooking a full roast beef dinner in it. But even if they did, to each his own.

I don't think it poses a fire hazard ... unless you turn it on for 20 minutes instead of 20 seconds and leave the room. :rotfl: And since Values and Mods have outside entrances, I doubt that any strange smells are going to infiltrate their way into the adjoining rooms. If someone can show me in the check-in info, that "microwaves are not allowed" then by all means form the "microwave police".

I know that the shuttle company we used rented them as well ... and I would think that if they weren't allowed, the bellhops would have advised guests that were unloading them from the van/towncar.

Sorry but I for one would mind if someone is cooking smelly food next door to me. I wonder when the OP is going and where she is staying. I sure don't want to be next to her.

Come on, Jarman, you're jesting, right? :flower:

BTW, I meant that nobody (official) at Disney would mind if she brought her microwave. I didn't address the smelly food issue because I didn't take it seriously. :confused3

I don't think the OP said she planned on cooking smelly food. I think we can ALL agree nobody wants to smell bad odors. Are some people thinking she wants to cook fish or venison or some unusual type of spices or what? Anyhow, what will you do when your neighbor gets pizza delivered or room service or smokes a cigarette or comes back from the parks with sweaty BO? (YUCK!!! I can't believe I said it. )

This thread is kind of funny. I think maybe some of the posters must be at least half-joking, right? I'm fairly new to the boards. Maybe I'm just not in the swing of it yet.

Just basing it on my stay at VWL where there ARE microwaves, and it is an inside hallway (meaning one would notice "smells" more than at a value/mod resort), I don't think that most people would be using their microwaves to cook "smelly food" ... they'd probably use it for ... oh, I don't know ... all the things I listed in my post about what I used it for. :rolleyes1

I think people worry way too much about what might happen, rather than taking the attitude of dealing with it if it did. I wish that all of my worries were this trivial. :(

Sorry you were offended. I meant it as, "I can either afford a vacation or not." You was an incorrect term. I know that when we go on vacation I am not lugging such things with me, nor am I going to worry about running back to a room to eat. That's me. To me that is not a vacation. Part of this comes from DH who had a mother who wouldn't give him a few bucks to buy lunch on a field trip but rather packed him a sandwich. He was mortified. He always feels bad when he sees kids sitting on bench in WDW unwrapping foil wrapped sandwiches. To each their own, for my family we go on vacation when we can afford it the way we like it. :)

Well then I guess he would feel pity for our dd eating her PB&J. Strange thing is, something like that would never bother her. She appreciates what she has and it just happy that we are able to manage a trip to Disney even if it means eating food we have brought.

And bringing your own food may have nothing to do with being able to "afford" to eat out every meal. I get very sick of restaurants very quick while on vacation. A good sandwich is always a refreshing treat!

As I said before, to each his own!

Well folks - this thread has run it's course - you are no longer discussing the original post - just bickering over your personal opinions about other peoples vacation choices - say good-bye!
