I am hoping it is a cyst. I don't know if anyone remembers, but I posted earlier about having hair loss. I thought it was related to my weight loss, but it may be my thyroid!

Anyone here have thyroid problems?? I hear it is extra hard to lose weight with thyroid issues. I am kind of freaked out, but am really hoping it is nothing!

While I dont have a thyroid problem my sister did. She has since had it removed by radiation. She had Graves disease. After removal she takes a pill to act as her thyroid. She has very little problems. I certainly hope you have a positive outcome to your lump. God Bless...and know we are all thinking of you.

I have an underactive thyroid, and will take a thryoid supplement every day for the rest of my life. I have no negative effects from the meds, and it is very inexpensive. Before I was diagnosed, I had dry hair and skin, and th eworst part was excessive and unusual fatigue. I would think a lot about when I could take a nap or go to bed - and a three hour nap or a night's sleep didn't refresh me. SInce starting on the synthroid, I have only normal tiredness, and my skin/hair are better.

This is a very common problem, tends to run in families, and is very serious! Look it up on the internet - there is lots of information out there.

(Grave's is overactive thryoid, I think - the opposite of my condition)

I had a lump on my thyroid 9 years ago. Turned out it was thyroid cancer. I really HATE posting this because I don't want to freak you out, but I'm sure you are well aware that the possibility exists. I'm fine and usually thyroid cancer turns out fine, I just want to urge you to follow through with getting the lump diagnosed and if you have any questions, ask away!

Christine, your recovery and your testimony is a blessing!

Fresh Tressa, thank God you're getting this treated! I pray that you have a complete recovery and please let us know!

God bless,

Robinrs

My DD had a small nodule on her thyroid last year that turned out to be nothing serious. She just has to get it checked yearly to make sure there's no change.

On the other hand, I had Grave's Disease about 13 years ago (overactive). It was treated with radioactive iodine which destroyed my thyroid. I take synthroid every day, but have had serious weight issues ever since. My thyroid is now considered to be underactive. I have practically no metabolism to speak of.

So there's a lot of different forms of thyroid disease. Here's hoping yours is not serious.

I had a lump on my thyroid, called a thyroglossal duct cyst. Along with the removal went some of my thyroid. It actually slowed me down a little, helped me to sleep and turned out ok. It was one day surgery - no biggie.

I still have marginal problems, but nothing off the scale lately.

I wish you the best!

I found a lump on my thyroid and just went threw all the testing. No symptoms what so ever, but I had the blood work, all came back fine and my thyroid is functioning normal. I had the scan and a trip to the throat and neck doctor.

I go for a biopsy and ultrasound next week and hoping all turns out ok. I have been told by several doctors, even a throat cancer doctor that thyroid cancer is very rare and most of the lumps (85%) are normal.

I hope the best for you and like me try to be positive. I will say a prayer for you.

I also have an underactive thyroid, and am taking a pill daily. I call it my Magic Pill -- before, I was lethargic all the time and felt like I was wading through molasses just to get through the day. About a week after I started taking the pill, I woke up refreshed and with energy, and started off the day by organizing my son's room. Freaky!

Good for you for getting this checked out! More than likely, it won't be anything scary. Problems you don't know about, you can't fix, right? Good luck!!

All of the thyroid function tests came back normal (darn, can't blame the weight on that :)

I go for a scan in the morning. The doc didn't seem very concerned so I am hoping all turns out well!

I don't have any experience with this, but just wanted to let you know that I was thinking about you and will be saying a prayer for you that everything turns out OK. Keep the positive attitude.

Well, the ultrasound says it it not a cyst, but a nodule.

I have to go in for some sort of radioactive scan or something later this week. Yuck.

Luckily, most everything I read about thyroid nodules is pretty positive, but it is still scary!

I've had it for 12 years. Supposedly the medication I take makes me "normal". I wish I could blame my weight gain on that instead of the Whoppers with cheese or the chocolate cake, :) but I can't.

I don't think it makes things easier, that's for sure, but with meds, it shouldn't be a big factor.

Now the thyroid could definately be the culprit for the hair loss. Keep us updated, OK??

edit: just read through the whole thread. Glad everything seems to be ok. Let us know what the scan says. :)

Just a few things to try for hair loss:

Nizoral 2% prescription shampoo. Some hair loss seems to be caused by fungus. I've known some women to receive relief from using this shampoo.

Zinc 50mg/day - my endocrinologist recommended and it is definitely working. I also take a multivitamin but I swear the additional Zinc did the trick!

hi... i have had problems with my thyroid since i was 8 ...im 19 now..if you have any questions, please PM me..ive had tumors and such ...so i know some tuff :)

I can empathize. I have hyperthyroidism & have been on meds since 1980. No big deal. Did have a recent thyroid scan that showed 3 nodules. I am currently fighting with my insurance to cover the biopsy the doc wants done. I changed insurance last Sept & they are considering this a "preexisting condition" and don't want to pay until Sept 04. Now the sonogram tech mentioned the "C" word, so I'm not willing to wait. Thanks for posting - it reminded me to get back on the phone with insurance co.
