I'd mailed 3 swaps out at the same time: Event, Second Chance & Tags. Only the Event swap got to its destination. I hadn't bothered with DC because I already had the stamps & didn't want to stand in line. I mail things often enough that the desk clerks just say "Drop it on the counter" when I walk in.

Well, it turns out that I must have confused Buffy's & Joy's zip codes. At least that's what the note said. But let me backtrack first...

Today we finished decorating the tree & started wrapping some gifts. This ended up requiring a trip out to the barn with the trash to be burned. (We live on a farm & all paper etc is bagged to burn with the farm trash.) There was quite a pile in the barn as it's been rather rainy lately & the farmer hasn't burned yet this month. So we had to do a bit of moving things around. The guy who lives in the other half of the house had put a large box on top of one of the barrels & it looked like there was room inside for some of our trash.

Laying down inside the barrel was the Priority envelope addressed to Joy - with a note from the postmaster. It said the zip code didn't match the town & he wanted me to check that the rest of the address was correct before he sent them off. (Yes, we're a small town here & often get this kind of service.) Unfortunately, the envelope had been ripped open & was empty.

The small box I'd used to send the Second Chance stuff to Buffy was nowhere to be seen, but I could see the baggies of fiber down in among some disgusting, wet, smelly garbage. I was NOT going to dig around to see if anything else was there.

I called the landlord to see if he knew anything about it. He said that he was there the day the carrier dropped off the packages & that she'd left them on the bench on our porch - but that was all he knew. This was the week of Thanksgiving. The only thing we can figure is that the guy who lives on the other side had his son here that week. Maybe the son took the stuff & he didn't want to "confess" to us, so he attempted to destroy the evidence. :confused3

I have no intention of confronting him about this because he's leaving at the end of the month - I can't wait! He's been known to do things to "get back" at us for things & I don't want to take any chances. At least he'll be gone!! Although I know we could get some really strange neighbors, I find it difficult to believe that they'll be worse than this one!

So anyway, I found out what happened. Buffy & Joy can stop looking for the other packages now. :sad2:

What a little snot to steal your stuff and then try to hide that he did it. You poor thing for being stressed all that time when he had stolen. I remember some of the other issues you've had with this guy. Thank goodness he's moving.

 for you for the stress.

Snot is right!!! I'm glad we know where the stuff is but I'm sorry all your hard work was wasted.
I'm glad he's moving, I remember the horror stories about the electricity there.

Ugh! Makes you want to just throw his butt in the sn**...

Well, good thing they are gone soon!!!
I'm so sorry that all your work was ruined... What a brat!

I feel awful that he stole all of your hard work. At least you know what happened. As for your neighbor good ridance to bad rubbish.

That is so awful! worse than the ABC swap going missing, IMHO. Thank goodness he's going soon! And I'm so glad none of my neghbours are moving at present so i know he's not coming all the way here!!

Uh yeah...it's been interesting around here. I'm guessing he might have been looking for money since he's been out of work for months. I just thought it was odd timing with his son here - the boy is only about 5 and generally well behaved. It's the father that is, um... interesting. ;)

I'm going to keep my eyes open to see if he carries any gifts out with lime green tags on them. :lmao: I'd used DCWV paper from last year's Christmas stack & the matching cardstock was kind of lime green. That should make them easier to spot from a distance. :rotfl:

:rotfl: About the lime green tags.

:sad1: About your stuff being stolen.

Glad the neighbor is moving.

:flower3: For you.

I'm so sorry that happened to you after all the hard work you put into your swap items.

Since you mentioned the possiblity of looking for money, I'm curious if you included money for postage or stamps.

I completely understand about not wanting to bring up the subject to someone who is a known retalliator, but isn't tampering with the US mail some sort of offense?

We had a package delivered and left on our porch a while back. I happened to look in our hose reel box and found the opened package. All of the items were there. I asked one neighbor mom if she happened to see anyone hanging out on our porch and told her about the package. She asked one of her daughters about it and found out that she had opened the package. I wasn't mad or anything, it was just a teachable moment. I'm glad she was able to learn a little something that way than with someone else's packages. I'm also glad it was a nice little girl with caring parents rather than the snots I thought it could've been.

Glad to hear you won't be dealing with that neighbor anymore!!! That really stinks about your swap stuff.
