My DD13 saw this cute little dog on our way home from school. He was almost to a very busy street -- probably would not have made it. He's very well-mannered, housebroken, sweet... We've made signs, hoping to find his owner. He had a collar but no tag. Hoping to find his owner before my DD's are more attached than they are already! We already have two dogs... can't keep a 3rd... though I could become attached, too! :goodvibes

You should contact your local animal shelters. There is a good chance the owners have contacted them about their lost dog.

Yes, I'll do that. Thanks for the suggestion. Don't know why I didn't think of that. Duh.

also contact the local animal control officer. The non-emergency police number should be able to hook you up with that, or even speak with the officer directly.

Good luck! I hope his family finds him. Good for you for watching out for him.

My children have named him. This can't be good.

They're calling him Jack.

He's obviously a house dog... he jumps up on the furniture, follows me up the stairs, etc. But we don't let our other dogs on the furniture OR upstairs (for allergy control purposes). He stretches out on the tile with his feet out behind him to cool his belly. TOO CUTE!

Gracie (dog pictured below) is trying to make him understand that she is Alpha Dog. She's not being mean at all, but won't leave the little guy alone!
Our senior beagle really couldn't care less. She's an easy-going kind of dog.

I remember when I was out running last summer I had a boxer puppy follow me without me realizing it for about a mile or so. When I turned around and saw him, I actually screamed and scared the poor thing off, then finally caught him again. He had a collar, and since I was only a few hundred yards from my house, I took him in and contacted the local PD about where the owners were. Literally were 2 streets over, and their message on their answering machine said they were on vacation. Turns out their housekeeper had accidentally forgotten to make sure the fence in their backyard was closed. Had a year old puppy for about a week... I've never seen my dog so jealous before.

I wouldn't let your kids become too attached though, because it's obviously a pet which you're going to have to give up. Think how much you would miss your pet if the same thing were to happen? :grouphug:

You're absolutely right, Kimberly! But Simba (his real name --- maybe I should have asked if the owner is a Dis'er...) was picked up at around 530pm. Apparantly a utility guy was in his back yard and left the gate open! And he was quite a ways from home when I picked him up... about 3/4 mile.

Anyway, I'm glad he's back with his family. He was a great little visitor, though.

That was so nice of you to pick him up and keep him safe until his family could find him. The world needs more people like you!
