Found another bargain at Dollar Tree!

I was being a complete smarta$$...shop the Dollar Store all the time...everything has chemicals...everything will kill us...OMG, some people (not you)...get over yourselves...jeez:confused3

No you'll only die a horrible painful cancerous death if you live in california. Anywhere else you'll just keel over in a few minutes from eating that tainted candy. :rotfl:

What makes you think that only dollar stores have food from China in them? And why do you think that's all dollar stores sell?

And while we are talking about it - just because the food looks like it was "made" in the US doesn't save you from the issues - even if the food looks like it was made in the US, individual ingredients can be imported from other countries like China. That's what happened in the pet food scandel a few years ago. Everyone thought some of those were the "best" brands that were "made in the US".

Read labels. Know what's going on. But jumping to rash decisions and labelling all products in one type of store evil is just ridiculous and alarmist. And acting all high and mighty about it is insulting to others.

Well said!:thumbsup2

Yep California. Most of my electrical products have warning labels on them that ONLY apply if you live in California. Whats up with that? :rotfl:

Decided to check the packaging on the items I've picked up recently at the dollar store (the one in my town is Dollar Tree) and here's the scoop.

The foot pads? Made in the U.S.A.

The sensitive toothpaste? American Flag on the label marked Made in the USA and distributed by a company in New York.

Scotties tissues? Made in the USA.

The hot pink highlighter pens? Made in the USA.

Black sharpie pens? Made in the USA.

Bundle of notepads? Made in the USA.

Bottle of glass cleaner? Made in the USA.

I'm really really surprised about this. Surprised but pleasantly so!

Yep- people are keeping their familes "safe" by not shopping at the Dollar store LOL

Wow, and LOL

Slightly off topic but we're in the market for a new car. My husband works in a mine that digs the rock that gets turned into steel. That steel then gets put into new cars and other products. You would not believe how hard it is to determine where the steel in an item actually COMES from. LOL We would LOVE to purchase a car made with all or mostly American made bits and pieces but it's really impossible to figure it out.

Well the bigger question is, Do you purchase an American brand that's imported or a foreign brand that's made mostly in America? So which car is actually more American made?

You have to go extremely high end cars that look over every detail with a magnifying glass. They're the only ones that know where every piece of a car comes from. Anything on your average lot, the manufacture gets mass productions from here there and yonder and couldn't tell you a thing.

I also couldn't tell you of a single item sold at the Disney parks that's actually made in America. All of it is imported.

You guys are making me feel better.... I was really paranoid after reading that other thread... we love the garlic bread to:lmao:

I use to work for one of the companys who made items JUST for the dollar tree stores. They were made in the US, but they couldn't produce enough of the product for regular stores so they only sold them in Dollar Tree stores. My DH also works for a soft drink company and their trucks deliver the same product there that they do at all the other stores in town. They don't have special Dollar Store product, its all the same!

I recently found Clairol Root Touch Up, at the Dollar Tree. I had been buying these at Walmart - same brand, same color - for around $7/box. I use these in between having my hair professionally done, so it was already a great savings (instead of going to the beautician every 4-6 wks). I stocked up and bought 10 :) I thought my husband was going to think I was crazy, but instead, he was very proud of me.

Well, if some people think there is lead in some of the other products that the Dollar tree has, wouldn't you think there is something in the ink they use on the work books and greeting cards you find there? The people you give the greeting cards to may feel the same way you feel about someone giving your children candy from the Dollar tree. Just sayin' I love the Dollar tree and I don't think they would have had stores as long as they have if everything contained lead.:confused3

Awesome deal! Congrats!!

I'm another person who loves the Dollar stores. Its always interesting to find something in there, and its definitely my go to place for wrap, cards, and candy. My store carried a lot of cosmetics in original packaging...I've bought Almay, L'Oreal, maybelling, and Revlon products from there and have been using them for over a year. Never had an issue and I can find the same items across the street at the pharmacy.

I will also say that I bought Oneida flatware from my store and the glasses I've bought there are virtually indestructible. They also have a great selection of books that's always fun to go through. I once found instant coffee in tea bag style envelopes that were perfect to take on vacation that I've never seen again but am always on the lookout for.

I understand the poster who would have been offended by the candy/items from the dollar store from the teacher, but I think the real sentiment of being rewarded for the effort was missed. If its not for you, then fine. But the idea was still the same, regardless of where it came from.

Wow this is a great deal! I do the same thing as you. I'll definitely keep a look out for these next time :thumbsup2
