Found a tick on DD!

Flushing ticks down the drain does not kill them. You need to drop them into some alcohol. I keep a small prescription bottle filled with an inch or two of Isopropyl 91% alcohol under the sink. When I find a tick, I drop it into the bottle. Drug stores sell both 70% (rubbing) alcohol and 91% alcohol. A Vet Tech told me to buy the stronger stuff (91%).

OPs have had good advice. Watch for signs of illness such as rash or fever, and see a health care provider if these develop. Did you already put antibiotic ointment on the spot where you found and removed the tick?

Are you telling me he COULD COME BACK!!? :scared1: I ran hot water down the drain for a few minutes.
I am seriously skeeved right now. Can he really crawl back up the drain?

Sounds like it was a dog or wood tick. From what I've read, they don't carry lyme. It has been a bad tick year. We've had about 5 this year. I freaked out at first but now I just pull them off and flush them.

I even had one on my hoo-ha! Eeek!

I don't know if they crawl back up the drain but wherever they end up, apparently they will still be alive when they get there. They are pretty hardy creatures, unfortunately.

Ok ticks freek me out anyway but if I ever find one there my hubby will find me passed out on the floor!

Same happened to my child, I saved it, it was the smallest tick Id ever seen so knew something was up. CHeck your area, we have a free office that deals w/ mosquitos/ticks, etc - they told me it had been attached 24-36 hours, this is when they start to transmit the disease IF they have it.

Her pediatrician could not do anything right away, as Lyme presents itself only after a couple weeks in bloodwork. I had the tick tested & it was positive for Lyme. Half the ticks in our area are positive. Less than 40% of people who have Lyme get the bulls eye rash, so dont look for that, the flu like/achey symptoms are more indicative.

Once I found out the tick had Lyme I put her on antibiotics. The Dr wouldnt at 1st since that is risky as well, but we ended up doing it. I know you dont have your tick, but maybe your Dr can tell you the risk of meds vs waiting it out. Good luck.
