Today, when I was walking home from school, I saw this very small dog running around loose. This was on a side road, but not far from an extremely busy main road. A girl that lives up the street first went up to the dog, "Moe". Then I went over and picked him up. Her and I didn't know what to do, but Moe had a collar on, so we called the phone number on the collar. Noone answered the phone. The other girl said that she knew the guy whose dog this was. She said that his wife died a few years and since then he has stayed to himself a lot. She said his grown kids are supposed to be taking care of him, but they don't. So we brought the dog to the address his tag said. We went into the backyard (the house was behind the other girl's house, so we walked through her backyard into the guy's backyard) and saw a cage for Moe. So we went over and walked around it. The door was locked and there were no holes or anything. So we can't figure out how Moe got out. The other girl said that the guy walks him on the road she lives on all the time, so maybe Moe got loose then. Then we went to the front door and knocked and noone answered. We knocked a few more times and noone answered. Then we went around the back door and knocked a few times there. Noone answered. There was a sticker with three phone numbers you could reach his son at in case of an emergency so we tried those numbers. None of them worked. Some emergency numbers they are.

So then we went next door thinking maybe the neighbor could take him or knew something. The neighbor is an older guy. He seems very lonely. I felt bad for him. He told us his wife died a year ago yesterday and he doesn't think he'll live much longer and he can't hear very well and he is 88 years old. He was very nice. He brought us a rope to tie to the dog so I didn't have to carry him. He told us that you can never reach the son with those numbers. Real useful, huh? He also told us that the guy should be home and it is very unusual for him to not answer the phone or the door unless he was sleeping. At the point me and the other girl got a little concerned.

Then we went back over to the guy's house and tried to call him again. We also knocked on both doors several times. At the point we didn't know what else we could do, so we called the cops. A police officer came and we told him what the neighbor had said about it being very unusual to not be able to reach the guy. The police officer said "Well, lets look in the windows to make sure he isn't laying in there on the floor." OK then. So the cop walked around the house and peeked in the windows. The cop noticed the same thing the other girl and I did. He said that everything was like placed and it was very neat and orderly, almost like a woman or someone with OCD lived there. It was very strange. So the cop took Moe and will try to get a hold of this guy or his son. I am just hoping they find this guy. I'm not worried about Moe. He is a very friendly dog and I know he will be ok. This guy is lonely and older. I'm just hoping that he didn't fall and get hurt upstairs in his house or hes out looking for Moe and fell then or anything.

Sounds like you did the right thing by letting the police take over. And good you took care of Moe so he didn't get hurt.

It seems to me you & your friend went the whole 9 yards for Moe, good job! :cheer2:

You could call the city pound--or wherever your town houses stray animals-- describe Moe & perhaps have the date he was picked up. Ask about him. If the gentleman in question is unable to care for Moe he may just be up for adoption. If you or someone else you know would be interested in adopting the little fellow be sure you let the shelter know or get down there pronto to set things in motion~

Again, bravo for going the extra mile!

Hugs for helping Moe!

I am so impressed with your kindness! We need more people like you in this world.

Update on Moe:
I'm more concerned now. Today I was walking home from school, but the other girl didn't ride the bus. I saw this little brown and white dog in someone's yard, it was about the same place we first saw him yesterday (but yesterday he ran down a side street before we picked him up). This family lives there and I am not particularly fond of them. They have a little black dog that barks at anyone constantly. They finally started putting him on a chain last summer. This black dog would run out in the street and chase people walking down it. A couple times, this dog chased me. I felt bad because as I was walking, I kicked him accidentaly, but he was chasing after me trying to bite me. I love dogs and there aren't many that I don't like, but this little dog is annoying. I don't want to say I hate him because it is the family's fault. They don't treat that dog very well. A friend of mine told me that they kicked it once as my friend was walking past. They are always yelling at this dog to shut up and stop barking. They know what time people walk past the house, but they don't bring the dog inside, they just let him out there barking and yell at him for barking. These people have kids, too. The boys (probably about 7 and 10) had a lemonade stand set up one summer. These boys would go out into the middle of the main, extremely busy road and try to wave cars down. They were standing literally in the middle of the road (on the yellow line) in the middle of a bend in the road trying to get cars to stop and buy some lemonade from them. I have several other stories I could tell you about these kids.

Anyways, I see this dog and it looks a lot like Moe. When I got closer, I realized it was him. They had him chained right next to the other dog. I think he recognized me because he started barking and his tail was wagging. The lady that lived there was looking out through the window up stairs as I was going past. This is not the house that the tag said Moe belonged to. I really would love to know what is going on there. The police brought Moe to the police station (they have a cage there that they can keep the dogs in), so I don't think they would have been able to get him unless they could somehow prove they knew this guy that Moe belonged to. I don't trust these people with him. I don't think that they have done anything to their other dog that would amount to abuse as the dog never looks afraid or anything. I just don't think that they are the most responsible, best family to keep this dog or any dog for that matter.

Very weird. I'd follow up with the cops, maybe the family kidnaped Moe from the old man's back yard, I've heard of that happening! And maybe they can tell if Moe's owner is okay or not.

Interesting, keep us posted. Wonder where the other guy is and how did they end up with the Moe Doggie? Especially if it isnt their number on the collar. Maybe they are dog sittiing for the man? Is he visiting his son?

I wonder if Moe's owner is ok? Maybe this neighbor is watching Moe for him? I would be concerned too because they can't even take care of one dog properly. The police can tell you what they did with Moe and then you will know more.

Friday, I am going to work at my local fire department's fish fry. One of the fire fighters is also a cop. I am going to ask him and see if he knows anything about what happened. If he doesn't know, maybe he can find something out. I will let you all know what happens when I find out. The weird thing, though, is that the house I saw Moe at isn't even next to the address on the tag. The address on the tag is on the main road. The other house is on the side road. They are within walking distance, but not close enough that I would consider it a neighborly thing that they did. I mean its not close enough that the guy could have walked over and said "Hey, neighbor, will you watch my dog for me?" I think if that were to happen, they would have had to be friends, but from what I heard about the guy, I doubt that. They could have been relatives, too, but the other girl said that all his kids are gone. I honestly don't know what to think anymore. This story keeps getting stranger and stranger.

I am also worried about Moe and his owner...Please update...

Sorry it took so long for an update. I had a busy weekend/week and I haven't been able to get on.

Today I saw Moe in those people's yard again. They are never outside. Well, except for the kids who are usually riding dirtbikes in circles in the yard and doing things they probably shouldn't be doing. I was going to just talk to the people who live there and casually bring up Moe, but then I remembered that I have only seen the adults that live there once in the past 3 years. The cop I was going to talk to left before I got a chance to ask him about it. I might see him a week from Saturday, so if I don't find anything out between now and then, I will ask him. I am going to talk to my dad and see if he can find anything out. Sorry I don't have any big updates to tell you or anything. I will try to find something out, though, I promise.

Thanks for keeping us posted :thumbsup2
and here's a big :grouphug: for being such a great involved person!
