We are huge Disney fans and have been to WDW every Summer since 1999 with the exception of one. This summer we have decided to step outside of our box and take a last minute trip to Universal. Our kids, 9 and 16, have requested it. We are considering staying at the Portofino Bay Resort the end of June. Are the FOTL passes for everything or are they just for certain things like the WDW Fastpass? I haven't seen anything that spells out the details for us. Also, would we need 3 or 4 days?:)

Thanks

No, you don't "need" three or four days, but that won't be too much time. FOTL is for every attractions except Rip Ride Rockit and Pteranodon Flyers. It's much the same as Disney fastpass lines (other than being unlimited) in that some rides you get right on, and some rides you still have to wait 15 minutes.

Unlike Disney, you dont' have to get a ticket that tells you what time to come back. You just go right in the fastpass line whenever you want and over and over again if you feel like it. The big difference between the onsite FOTL and the Purchased Express Pass is that the purchased one is usually only good once per day where the hotel one is unlimited. Now we have heard rumors that the new FJ ride at WWOHP will be only once per day for hotel guests.

We will only stay onsite now, with kids this is a lifesaver!

We stay for 5 nights to just sit back and relax and not rush anything. 3 days would be good and it will give you the opportunity to see pretty much everything. 4 days will allow you to take your time and enjoy other aspects of Universal. The hotels allow pool hopping so take the afternoon and go over and hang out at HRH pool area :)

You will be spoiled by the unlimite express pass for staying on-site. We stay at Universal at the start of our Disney trip and it is really wonderful. You just have to show everyone's room key at the express pass entrance for each ride. As a pp said, the rumor is that the new FJ ride will be one time per day for on-site guests but that the other rides that offer it will still be unlimited. RRR still doesn't have express pass - rumor had it that at some point they would but who knows if that will happen.
