Do I need to worry about trying to stay on site for FOTL pass in mid Jan?

I did not haveto worry when I went in January but how can you predict ..just when a think you have it figured out it changes..lol..
BTW I love your Nickname... When I was younger the guys called me DePuck because of my love of hockey& first 2 lettersin my last name!!

I was wondering the same thing. We have a late Jan. trip planned and I just don't seem to get anywhere when I try to find out rates on the Universal or Lowes site. So I was thinkin of throwing in the towel and looking at off-site.

thoughts anyone else? Should I split my stay and transfer to a Universal Hotel for 1 or 2 nights?

I have never heard of crowds in January, even on the holidays. I've been many times in February and the park is a ghost town in the morning.

Now, if you want to sleep in, and visit the parks in the afternoon, then having FOTL may be worth it. The park comes to life in the afternoon, with waits of 30-45 minutes for the major attractions. The parks close early, at 6-7pm, so remember that.

If you wake up early, and arrive the gate before they open at 9am, then I'd say no, you don't need FOTL.

We were there this past January (Jan 2 - Jan 5). The crowds were very managable, in my opinion. As someone mentioned, the key is getting to the park at opening. At IOA, for example, most people will come in and tour the park "in order". So, they come in, take a left, hit Marvel Hero Island, then Toon Lagoon, then Jurassic Park etc. (or the reverse). If you get there at park opening, you will be "ahead" of most of the crowds that roll in between 10:30 - 11:00 am.

Universal Studios is a bit less predictable in terms of crowd flow due to its configuration. Obviously The Mummy is the most popular attraction so heading there upon park opening is probably a good idea. Lines for Men In Black and Shrek are also long and steady all day, but definitely managable, even in the off season.

Of course, there is always express pass too :)
