I haven't posted in a while - am I correct that there is no longer a forum to rent out DVC points?
Thanks!

Ah, thanks! I was on work computer and didn't realize I wasn't logged in. Thanks!!

Also, I used to be able to post a request for another member to transfer some points to me when I over-used my allotment for the year. Can we no longer post those sorts of requests? If not, why?

No "want to rent/buy." Reason being the site hosts do not want them.

Wanted posts would outnumber available points 100-to-1. They're pointless.

I tried posting but there is a rule I don't understand
"we look for at least 8 posts in each of at least 4 of the previous 6 months,"
They want me to pay first. Where does that money ? Not sure if this question is allowed . Very scared to ask any questions on here in fear of being dinged . I guess I was told yrs also on that board and honestly forgot and the moderator was very rude to me about it. That's not Disney like!

They don't want folks who only use the board to seemingly make money. You must be an active member of the community in order to post on the rent/trade board. Alternatively, you can pay for the privilege.

I'm confused about the rules. Is it 50 posts to be eligible to use the rental board or is it 32 over 4 months? What about if you want to rent someone's points?

There are no requirements to be able to rent someone else's points except to have enough posts to be able to PM the other member.

This is the exact wording:
Anyone submitting a new thread must have had their DIS username for at least 6 months, and must have a minimum of 50 non-Rent/Trade board posts (that contribute to discussions on the DIS forums) evenly spread over the last 6 months as verified by the DIS search engine. "Evenly spread" is defined as a minimum of 8 posts in at least 4 of the past 6 months.

IOW, in order to post a rental thread you need:
  • At least 50 posts. More is better but the minimum is 50 posts.
  • You need to have been a registered member for at least 6 months.
  • Those 50 posts cannot be clustered together, like 50 one-word posts in an effort to boost your post count. They want people who actually contribute to the online community.
  • In order to ensure that there is no ambiguity about the phrase "evenly spread", the owners have defined that term to mean a minimum of 8 posts in each of 4 out of the last 6 months. If you registered years ago and stopped posting, those posts won't count. They want you to be a current member of the community.
You do not need to have a large post count in order to rent from a member. There are many posts on the rental threads from people who just registered and made their first post, looking to rent from a member.

Meeting the criteria to post 'points or rent" is not difficult, just requires a little discipline and determination to ensure the eight posts per mionth over the past 6 months. I have some points that I need to rent before next summer, so I am purposely responding to several posts with the intent to getting to the magic number and save the fee to list points for rent.

That's a very good explanation. Thank you. :)

8 posts in a month is equivalent to about 2 posts per week - on any of the DIS forums.
These rules have been in place for almost 6 years.

FWIW, the Rent/Trade Board mods turn down a LOT more submissions to the Rent/Trade Board than they accept. It appears to me that most posters never bother to read the pinned thread called ALL NEW THREADS MUST BE APPROVED!! - **How to use this Board** - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING before they post. Some of them don't think the rules apply to them.

Every thread that is declined gets pretty much the same PM explaining why. (Every thread that is accepted also gets a PM that provides a link to their thread and reiterates some of the rules). Here's an example of a typical response to someone who is declined for not having enough posts:

"The original intent of the Rent/Trade board was for it to be a place where active members of the DIS Community could come to rent points or reservations, or make transfers. In order to post a new thread on the board without paying a fee, the DVC R/T Board requires a minimum of 6 months registered on the DIS and 50 non-Rent/Trade board posts distributed evenly over the past 6 months as verified by the DIS search engine.

At this time you have 0 non-Rent/Trade posts made within the past 6 months. I'm sorry your thread cannot be validated at this time unless the Gold rental plan has been purchased as described in the links below.

To meet the evenly distributed criteria, we look for at least 8 posts in each of at least 4 of the previous 6 months, with an overall total of 50 during the last 6 months.

For more information, please review the **How to use this Board** thread at the top of the Rent/Trade Board.

For as little as $24.95 the DIS offers an option that allows users to access the Rent/Trade board if they are unable to meet the posting requirements. This charge can easily be recouped in the rental process. See this webpage for details.

If you choose to utilize one of the payment plans , once you have paid, please wait until the icon shows under your name (you can look at any of your past posts or at any conversation you have sent ), before submitting another Rent/Trade thread. There can be a delay of up to 48 hours between payment receipt and the icon being added, as that is done manually after payment has been received from PayPal.

Thank you"

Again, there are NO posting requirements to reply to a thread on the Rent/Trade Board. The requirements are only for those who want to offer a confirmed reservation, a trade or their own points for rent or transfer.

The DIS R/T Board does not allow threads requesting a rental or transfer. Experience has shown that rental transactions are less likely to result in problems if the "buyer" approaches the "seller". Buyers are still strongly encouraged to do their due diligence before sending a seller money.

I don't even need all the fingers on one hand to count the reported problems that have occurred when renters heed the advice in the "HOW TO" thread and use the DIS Rent/Trade Board. :)
