Hi!!!!! I am taking my family of six to WDW in May of 2006. We can afford to stay at either a FW Cabin or two value resort rooms. We save about $400 by staying at the value resort, but which is better? :confused3

I love the cabins pro is that you have a full kitchen so you may save some $ if you eat breakfast in or even some other meals. Pro to value you would have 2 bathrooms. The cabins have a deck and it's like having your own place to say a nice thing is you do not hear your neighbors no one running overhead or outside the room at 11pm. Hope this helps. My vote Cabins

The Value resorts are pretty awful. The cabins are a real vacation experience your family will never forget.

It will be tight sleeping everyone, but you'll have a blast. It's WAY nicer of a place to stay, and you'll have the kitchen.

Don't forget to check out all the fun stuff to do at the Ft. W resort, like the animal petting area and blacksmith shop, renting boats, and the evening campfire program.

Well, I don't think the Values are awful at all, but given the choice, especially if one or two of the 6 ppl are smaller kids, I think the cabin wins hands down. You'd have to stagger morning shower times, but the time and money saved by eating breakfast in every morning is pretty good. Plus there's a full sized fridge, so even if you only do a couple of lunches, and a couple of dinners 'at home' you be doing well.

Plus Ft Wildnerness is really just a cool place to stay. Short boat trip from MK and monorails to EPCOT, lots to do at the campground.

And we choose.............

THE CABINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We statyed there in May and loved them. We have also stayed in the Value resorts. While I liked All Star Movies, I loved the Cabins. You will not be disappointed spending the extra$$$$$.

Its like 2 vacations in one because you really feel like you are in the mountains or something camping out in a quaint cabin and then a short bus ride/boat ride later you are enjoying "Disney" magic. THere is also so much to do at Ft Wilderness.

I am sure you will have fun no matter what!!!!!

Love the cabins ... but we love the Values too ! :rotfl: The downside to the cabins is that there is no "Disney Feel" to them, or the pools. The theming is just not the same as the huge icons at Movies that we love. And, the bus system has a lot to be desired. Taking the internal bus to get to the front desk to get the busses to the other parks is a bit of a pain. But we usually drive to all parks EXCEPT MK, so it wasn't so bad for us.

Full kitchen is great, and it's so nice to have a place that feels like a "home away from home". Only YOU know how well your family of 6 would get along with only one bathroom :rotfl2:

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Either way, you won't be disappointed.

I vote for the cabin. I always have a very stressfree trip at the cabins.

Even though transportation is not the best at values, Fort Wilderness is HUGE. The weather in May is not as extreme as it is in July/Aug, but depending on what cabin/loop you get there could be some serious walking involved just to get the internal bus that will then take you to the main bus stop/marina that will take you to the parks.

Did I mention the place is huge.

I would rather stay at the values, have two bathrooms and use the extra 400 for some food.

Oh and the place is huge, I think I even cropped out the farthest two cabin loops from the bottom of this overhead picture.

I would go for two rooms at the all-stars for easier bus transportation and better pools, and quick counter service meals. The two bathrooms will be a blessing with that many people.

Another vote for the cabins. We've stayed there a number of times and love them. I have three teenagers and the bathroom has never been a problem. You can always ask for a loop near one of the public shower/restrooms. If someone needs to shower or "go" and the bathroom is occupied they can just walk over there. I also don't get the thing about the pool. It's a pool. You go in, you get wet, don't all pools do the same thing? :confused3 It's very quiet and having the kitchen is great. Mousekeeping will do the dishes and clean up. You don't HAVE to cook. But to be able to keep waters cold, snacks and some breakfast items and lunchmeat it works out great. We usually drive so the transportation thing isn't an issue. But when we have used it it wasn't bad.

i would go for the cabin. i wouldn't cook on vacation, but i would certainly keep the fridge stocked with drinks, milk, fruit, etc. i would have a quick breakfast every morning, and snacks at downtime. as far as the pools, value resorts don't have slides, and neither do ft. wilderness pools. so as far as i'm concerned, what's the difference? i think they would both serve the same purpose. also, we are a family of 5, and we shared a bathroom at GF. it was no big deal. our DD's get showers/baths at night anyway, so mornings were a breeze.

have fun whatever you decide. :flower:

I've done the cabins with eight adults and one child (two cabins) and All Stars with seven adults and one child (two connecting rooms). With your group, six people can easily fit into the cabin very comfortably. Downsides and upsides to both (IMHO).

All Stars - two bathrooms but only two sinks. More activity with more families and kids. No one was disappointed but it just wasn't the same.

Fort Wilderness - extremely quiet. Full kitchen so one group could cook every night. We didn't (hey, I'm on vacation!). But the charcoal grill was utilized for a big cookout. The deck outside was extremely nice in the morning to sit outside and wait for everyone to wake up. And did I say it was quiet? There's only one bathroom and that's a down side. You can use the kitchen sink for quick clean ups. Transportation wasn't an issue since my rookie daughter-in-law who never really had traveled before, quickly figured out the bus routes and had her family crusing through Disney World like she was a veteran.

We did the cabins first with almost the same group as the two rooms at All Star. Like I said, no one was disappointed with All Star but everyone really wanted those cabins. Just wasn't possible with our time frame (Christmas/New Year's). But if $400 is the difference, we would have booked ASAP at the cabins.
