Is it possible to not have a golf cart at FW? Everything I've read has made it seem to be a must. All golf carts are rented through Disney for our dates, Kenny is sold out as well. The other places I have called do not deliver. Has anyone managed ok without one? It has me worried.... Will I spend half my trip on busses?

We have stayed at the campground MANY times, and have NEVER had a golf cart. The bus system is pretty simple, and we find it very dependable. There are many who disagree, but it is our favorite place to stay with the whole family. The bus stops are plentiful, and you will get the hang of it very quickly. If not, get a golf cart later.:thumbsup2

You don't need one. It's fun, I mean, to tool around the resort in a golf cart, but the entire resort is only a mile long. Assuming your loop isn't on either end, it's a short walk to either the outpost or the settlement. You can also take the (quite good) bus service or rent a bicycle.

We've done both. If you are not an "up to the second" commando planner, you'll be fine. The internal buses run every 10 or 15 minutes TOPS. Any internal bus will take you to the front "Outpost" for buses to the parks or DTD, or to the "Settlement" at the other end for the boat to MK, Trail's End, and the beach. Every bus stops at the "Meadows" which is in the middle and is where the main pool and campfire are.

I don't think it takes any longer at the Fort than it does to get to a park bus at the larger resorts. Depending on where you stay at BWV for example, it can take 15 minutes to walk to the bus stop. So instead of walking for 15 minutes, you're on a nice air-conditioned bus :rotfl: Or if you're at a resort like POR and get on the bus, and have 4 stops around the resort, then onto a park, it's the same at the Fort, only you're doing two buses instead of one.

Hope I made sense! Honestly, if you're staying at Fort Wilderness, you should take the time to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Taking the bus is just part of that laid-back feeling.

I read your PTR too! I suggest loop 2500. There's a bus stop right there, and it's next to the cabin pool which has a hot tub and the laundry room. Very easy to just walk over and hang at the pool, no bus required.

One more suggestion, bring a couple of those small LED flashlights in your pocket for nighttime. When walking around at night, it's not very bright in the cabin loops and walking can feel a little scary if you can't see where your feet are going. Especially when you get off the bright bus, your eyes don't adjust immediately.

We love the Fort above all other resorts. Have a great trip!

We have been staying at FW since they opened and have never rented a cart. Never have wanted or needed one. It's just an extra perk to pay for and lots of people enjoy them, but they're definitely not a necessity. :)

Our stay there had 11 people all together. We had two cabins and one campsite. Age range was 5 years old up to early 70s. # of golf carts - zero. Amount of time spent on buses or waiting for transportation - the same as any other Disney resort.

I wouldn't worry about it. In fact, I had one of my most precious memories because we didn't have a golf cart. If we had one, we would have made to Magic Kingdom bus. Instead, we arrived just as it was pulling out. My son, who had just proposed to his now stepdaughter's mother, spent the next twenty minutes with a five year old girl showing her how to feed Disney fish for the price of 25 cents. That girl became our granddaughter that day with that moment. And we saw our son become a father.

agree with the other posters many many stays at the Fort & never once had a golf cart

Me too!:thumbsup2

Been many many times and never rented a golf cart. Internal buses are very timely.
