Fort Wilderness/Scooter Questions

We've decided to take a family trip to Disney before son goes into Marines this October. Taking grandma who cannot walk for distances due to back problems. Decided to rent a 3wheel scooter. We are going the week before Memorial Day.

Due to the amount of time I remember waiting for the disney busses I was thinking about towing our vehicle down and driving to the parks (I remember the busses could get crowded and with the scooter we may have to wait even longer).

Has anyone decided to drive to the parks instead of using busses?

Is handicap parking any closer or will we still have to take trams?

How are the trams with scooters?

Do you have to pay for parking if you are staying at Fort Wilderness (I can't seem to get confirmation Ft. Wilderness Campground vs. Lodge).

Also, we are in a full-size RV. Any suggestions on loop requests? We will have 7 "adults" so I'm looking for easy transportation access but also restroom/shower distances.

Thank you for your help.

You cannot take an ecv on the tram. Handicapped parking is the closest to the park and not serviced by the trams. You do not need to pay to park if staying at FTW. (Or the lodge).

Last time we stayed in the cabins at FW, we drove to all the parks, except MK. For MK, we used the boat. We found the drive easier than anything else in our case as my sister was especially in panic mode about not being able to get places that trip. It only took us about 10-20 minutes to get to the parks.

The handicap parking is closer in all of the parks. Just follow the signs and lines on the road to the correct parking lots. Note that at DHS the handicap parking can fill up quickly. I have twice not found a parking spot there. If you do decide to not take the boat and drive to MK, note that this is a bit of a longer walk for those not using a scooter or being pushed.

The scooters will not fit on the trams. The person in the scooter would need to drive to the entrance. There are no trams in the handicap parking areas.

Anyone staying on-site at a WDW resort does not pay for parking at the parks. You will receive a parking slip that you place in your windshield to show when you go through the parking gates. This includes FW and WL.

This is a question that will be best answered on the Campground forum just below the Disabilities forum.
