Seems to me this report is kind of out there in the middle of know where land. Am I wrong to think this? I am familiar with the Value and Moderate resort benefits. My wife, Shannon is sold on the benefit of having a small kitchenette available for meals. Other than what I have read online, can anyone provide any input on this resort, i.e. pros/cons? If we decide to book here we will be staying at one of the Wilderness Cabins.

Our trip is planned for Dec 7 thru Dec 13 and will include myself DH(35), DW(34), DD(7), & DS(4). Thanks in advance.

I haven't stayed at the cabins yet, but we are considering it for our next trip (it'll be me, dh, and our kids ages 7,7,5).

As for being out in the middle of no-where, from what I understand it's actually just a boat ride from MK. For the other parks, you take a bus.

This is just IMO, but heres the reasons why we are considering staying at the cabins:

1) The fort looks like a lot of fun for kids. They have pony rides, a small petting zoo, hay rides, you can rent golf carts, paddle boats, canoes, etc. Also the nightly camp-fire, and sing-a-long with Chip and Dale; and the Electric Water pageant.

2) It looks relaxing, and I like the idea of a little more privacy in having our own cabin rather than being in a resort room.

3) Close proximity to MK--I love that it's just a boat ride away. I've also heard you can watch the fireworks from the beach.

4) Love the idea of a kitchen. If we do stay here, we will not do the dining plan and instead have groceries delivered to eat some meals in the cabin.

Things I think our family may NOT like about the cabins:

1) No food court. Doesn't bother me, but Dh might miss one.

2) So spread out, and having to use the internal bus system (we don't plan on renting a golf cart). Also--forget about buying a re-fillable mug--no point getting one if it takes 15 minutes just to get to the place where you re-fill them.

So...those are our pro/cons...fortunately I have a long time to make up my mind since our trip isn't until Sept 2009.:rotfl:

A few years ago I got a discount deal through the company I worked for and it was for a stay in the wilderness cabins. This was my first time staying on-property. At the time we only had two boys who were 7 and 4. We had a great time. The boys loved staying in the bed that disappeared in the wall of the living room (can't think of what you call it right now) even though there was the occasional stay in a bunk bed in our room. Having the kitchen was great. We went out to the grocery store right after we got there and bought things for a quick breakfast (toast, cereal, juice, milk, frozen waffles, etc) and for sandwiches. We would get up and have a quick breakfast then head to the parks on either the boats or the buses from the resort. We would stay until it started getting hot and crowded, and then head back to the cabin to get a sandwich and let the kids cool down (well, us too). We would go to the pool or let them take a nap (usually pool). When we got back, MouseKeeping had cleaned the cabin and run the dishes in the dishwasher. We enjoyed the campground some and then we would go back into the parks in the evening when the crowds had gotten smaller and the temps were a little cooler to enjoy the fireworks and parades, and shorter ride lines.

It worked great for us with two young boys.

Murphy Bed.

And they are getting a new pool at Ft Wilderness. Not sure when, but it is supposed to be in 2008 if I remember correctly.

Who you calling a Murphy Bed???

Just kidding....yes, that's it.....this old mind wanders at times, or rambles, or something like that......

what were we talking about again???

We stayed at the cabins two years ago and absolutely loved them. There was a murphy bed for us in the living room along with a television. In the bedroom there is a bunk bed and I believe its a full size bed and again another tv in the bedroom. It was like a small apartment and there is a big deck in the front with a picnic table which we used a lot. The scenery is beautiful and it was very quite. If we were a big group again we would definitely do the cabins again.

Its definatley not in the middle of no where. Its in a great spot, right next to the magic kingdom and you can take the boat there. The actual resort is fun too, they have a great restaurant and dinner show. And the cabin is a lot of space like your own little house. I loved it!

I stayed there last year and would love to stay there again. The kitchen access was great. When we made it back each evening, the kids could crash and we could sit out on the deck with a glass of wine.

Twice on the way "home" from the parks, we saw a family of deer along side the road....ducks came up to the deck each morning.

They are much homier than a hotel room.

Myself and family have stayed in the Fort Wilderness Cabins. I found it very relaxing. You don't hear other toilets flushing, people walking above you, people talking. Having another tv for the kids was great. It was nice to return to quiet after being in the parks all day. My only problem was the laundymat. It was so hot. That was years ago so that may have improved. One other thing-- my kids loved the peacocks that wandered the grounds.
