Fort Wilderness questions

we have 5 kids and want to take them to disney and we have to keep cost down so I was wondering about camping here...

1. How secure is it with a tent? if you stay say for 5 nights and go to the parks and stuff can you trust your stuff will be ok b/c the tents you can get into without much of a prob.

2. How easy is it to get teens ready there? we have one girl and 4 boys the oldest is the girl she will 14/15 then ages down from there

3. Do guests there get the same benifets there as the other resorts? Like the fastpass ect.

Fort Wilderness guests get all the perks that other resorts guests do, it is a Disney resort. So you would get to enjoy the EMH hours and they do provide transportation to all of the parks. (just for your info fast pass is available to anyone with a ticket to the parks and not just resort guests.)

I would not think that you would have to worry about anyone bothering your things, but as in tent camping anywhere I would not leave anything of great value just in case.

There is a message board on this site just for Fort Wilderness it is under Camping at Disney. You will be able to get all the info you need there.

We camped there last summer in a camper and did have a great time. There is alot to do just at the campground. There is a nightly campfire movie with Chip and Dale and just can roast marshmellows, a petting zoo and horse back riding. THe bathhouses are really nice and clean and your kids should have no trouble getting ready.

We LOVE the campgrounds, I have 4 kids, we take our camper so I cant help you out on the tent issue. My advise is to go & camp !! You can ask to be near a bathroom for your 14 year old daughter to "primp" herself each morning & also laundry facilities are in some of the bathrooms. Take your bikes if you have room. You can also rent a golfcart, thats one of the best things we do & it helps after a long day at the parks to get you back to your site, they can be very far away from the boat. Lots of free things to do at the campsites, walks, sit by the lake or on the deck of the restaurant & have a cold drink, the hoop dee review (isnt free) but a blast, the chip n dale movie & campfire was fun (you can bring along your own marshmallows & sticks & chairs too.

You will love the campgrounds (if it doesnt rain) & your a camping family !! It is a disney resort !! full of its own treats & special things.

I highly recomment it for your family, if your concerned about valuables just lock them in your trunk, but we have never had a problem.

I wouldn't take anything of value with me, but I'd think your stuff would be fine in a tent. We stay in a camper, but I don't lock it when we go to the parks, and we leave our bikes and lots of other stuff outside of the camper and we've never had a problem. I'd be more worried about bad weather. The bathrooms at Fort Wilderness are the nicest I have ever seen in a campground, bar none. Your kids will have no problem getting ready there. I believe there are more comfort stations in the water/electric loop (mostly tents and popups) than in other loops, but you can count on them being busy at certain times, so you'll want to plan around that. Don't assume that at 7:30 in the morning there won't be a wait for a shower if you're there at a busy time - most folks in the W/E loops aren't self contained and will be using the campground showers. Finally, Fort Wilderness is a Disney resort, so you get all the perks that resort guests get (free parking in the theme park lots, delivery of purchases to the campground, EMH, etc.) The only area I can think of where there is discrimination against the campsites is in eligibility for the free dining plan offers they have from time to time.

We've tent camped several times. Anything of real value we either took with us are locked it in the car. One of the things I like about the bath house its very clean and theres more than one shower so your not waiting on one shower for 7 people. I would avoid going camping in the summer time because it can get really hot.
I hope you take the oppurtunity to Camp at FW, it truly is a great place to camp and be in the magic of Disney!!

I disagree with this statement. Though we camp at other times of the year as well, we always camp 4th of July week and have a great time. Our pop-up is air conditioned and when we bring an extra tent for the kids (we have 4 and are taking 7 this July), we air condition it too. During the heat of the day we swim, shop in Downtown Disney, visit the arcade at the Contemporary, hidden Mickey hunt that the resorts, take a nap in the camper, etc. Mosquito coils seem to run off any bugs and so do dryer sheets in your pocket or rubbed on your exposed skin.

Fort Wilderness is great anytime of the year. The themeparks, however, are better left to the cooler, less crowded times of the year.
