Day 2
The whole drive to Disney I was worried about what the week would have in store for us. We were all novice campers and have only spent 2 nights in a tent in our whole life. I didnt know what to expect for 7 nights sleeping outdoors. One thing I knew for sure was we were going to be at Fort wilderness in the 1500 loop.
We pulled up to the Outpost area of FW about 11pm. There was no line at check in (we found out later the Fort was pretty empty the fist few days of our stay). I gave the lady a few minutes before asking about or site number. My jaw almost dropped when she said 2055. I said politely, I requested the 1500 loop, is there availability there? She said, she had no request on my reservation for any specific loop. I looked at my wife in disbelief. I told her I requested the 1500 loop once with central reservations and then again by calling the resort directly 4 days ago. After talking to 2 different people no one actually imputed my request. I wanted to turn around and head to Port Orleans at this point. I decided to take a look at the 2000 loop and then decide. After seeing how far it was from the resort activities I told the wife I wanted to leave. The Teenagers wanted to stay badly. They loved the idea of camping. Since my Daughter, Wife and I have been to Disney 10s of times this was our Niece and Nephews trip. We decided we would just tough it out.
We started setting up camp. I just bought a giant 18x18 foot tent and it just barely fit on the sand pad. I am glad I didnt get the 20 footer because we would have had some trouble. As we were unpacking I noticed we forgot the extension cords and the lanterns. A trip to the Super Target was needed.
We always start our trip with a early dinner at Ohanas at the Poly. I didnt make any priority settings this trip so we decided to take a chance and go standby. We taked to a maintence worker about getting around the Fort. He said there was an unofficial path leading to the Creakside area a few sites down. This was probably the best piece of info we would receive on our trip, we would have never noticed the path. We found out the 2000 loop was not bad at all. It was only a short walk to the Meadows recreation area using the short cut.
We took the boat to the Magic Kingdom and boarded the monorail to the Poly. Ohanas was packed. The wait time for a walk up was 2 hours. We decided to wait. We sat and had drinks and talked about what we would do this week over some light appetizers. The dinner at Ohanas was great as always. The service this time around was poor though. They did not have enough food prepared and the waiters/waitresses were waiting by the fire pit for about 20 minutes for the cooks to finish. We mostly ate the turkey because the shrimps and steak didnt make it to the table until we were full. The Teens started getting in the Disney sprit with the coconut races and hula hoop contest. I was so happy to see these kids having a good time. Booth my Niece and Nephew had had a rough few years. They have gone through so much it would make the average adult have a breakdown. I wont get in to the details but lets just say, they deserved this vacation.
