Fort Wilderness Campground Christmas 2010

Hey Dave, Seen your Castle Video. Its pretty amazing. Look forward to seeing it in person. We are booked for 19-28 Dec. Also Hoop-De-Doo and Mickeys back yard BBQ. We were there for Christmas in 08 at the Wilderness Lodge and just loved it. Bought a class c motor home this year and thought we would try out the Fort. I reserved a GC and I guess I'll just drive around till we find you.

Me, DW and 2 boys 7 and 9 and the dog of course. Anything else you suggest I bring? We are coming down from Ontario. I'll leave the snow at home. lol

Hey blackdog0524. Congratulations on the new motor home! How exciting! Sounds like you have a great trip planned. Most of us post our campsite numbers (someone usually starts a thread) once we know what they are. Have a safe trip and don't forget to bring plenty of Disney music to listen to for your trip down from Ontario. Look forward to meeting you in person at the fort.

Dave

Is anyone allowed to drive through and look at the campsites? We are staying at Pop the week after Thanksgiving and would love to come over and see the Christmas lights.

As far as I know everyone is welcome to look at decorations at the campground. Just be sure you have ID when you talk to the guy at the guard shack.

Thanks this is great to know. I just thought it would be to congested and the guards wouldn't want alot of people driving around. I hope by then lots of campers will be decorated. :santa:

It is not advisable to drive around FW to look at the decorations. The loops are tight, there is no parking, and there will be allot of people roaming around on foot, on GCs, and the internal buses. If you do decide to come to FW, make sure you have your resort ID and either use Disney transportaion to get there (bus or boat) and then use the internal busses and walking to look at the decoartions.

I heard that Disney is cracking down on FW now and during Halloween had security posted at key areas to help prevent this.

Devores: Good response. I have concerns about cars driving around the loops. The roads are narrow, everyone inside distracted by looking at the decorations, nighttime, kids out, walkers, bikers, GC's, all make for a very unsafe situation. :scared1:

We will be staying at WL Dec 3-12, and would like to come over for the campfire and movie night. What time should we be there by?
Thanks

I bet you could rent a Disney golf cart to tour the loops. I believe they rent them by the 1/2 hour or hour.

Blackdog,
On your way down, stop by...we"ll be loading the camper here in MI for our FW stay Dec 20-31st... (We'll make sure the mitten is snow free for your travels too!) :goodvibes

:santa::santa: Surprise Christmas Vacation :santa::santa:

We'll be there Dec 19-26 in a cabin. After reading through this thread, I can't wait to see all the decorations and contribute a few myself. I have a night without dining ressies, and I think it would be best spent viewing the decorated campsites.

Because we're flying and will have weight limitations, I verified that I can ship a few boxes of decorations to 'The Fort' to have waiting for me when we check-in.

Lights, stockings and decorations oh my!

Long time lurker here...driving down in the pusher for a Dec. 21-26 stay, first one at the Fort! DBF and I actually ended up staying in DVC accomodations (5 adults in an RV is a bit cramped...) but you better believe we'll be visiting my parents in the motorhome daily!

Hey jessa07. Yes, 5 in one RV is a bit crowded. Be sure you stop by and say hello.

Dave

We'll be there December 10-16. Going down to attend D23's Magic & Merriment. Can't wait!

DH and I are staying at WL and want to head over to FW to look at the lights. Is it easy enough to just walk around and look, or should we book a "sleigh ride"?

Hey Boardwalk_bride. Devores is absolutely right. I remember Christmas time last year. It was very crowded. Between the golf carts, bicycles, and foot traffic. There is hardly enough room for a car. I think the "sleigh ride" is a great idea. It seems to me they last around 30 minutes and take you to the most popular sites. After that you could head out on foot. I think a golf cart is the ideal way to see decorations. But, it's not cheap (not sure how the price compares to a sleigh ride).
Anyway, when are you guys planning on touring the Fort?

Dave
