Has anyone stayed here on points? From the info. I see you can sleep 6 and it has a full kitchen etc. and the point totals are not bad--30 points per night during the regualr season--plus you can book at 11 months....any opinions?

Do they have everything that you would normally find in a home away from home? (i.e. washer and dryer)...
Thanks-
Shannon

We stayed in them when our boys were younger, in the '80s and early 90's. I love the Wilderness Cabins, but they have only 1 bathroom, and that gets harder as the number of people increases.

There's a dishwasher, but I don't think there's a washer/dryer combo.

We stayed in the cabins with my parents and my wife and two kids in 98. We discovered, after 3 days, that there was a comfort station one cabin down. This had washer/dryers (you had to pay) as well as toilet and shower facilities. This helped us out in the am. Also, the maid comes in daily and does all the dishes!

Our family of 6, four kids 11, 11, 14, 14, did that in June 2002 and that was a prime reason for joining DVC. We needed more room.

No washer and dryer in cabin.

One very small bathroom.

Sleeps 6, but in just 2 bedrooms and the beds are a full size in the only real bedroom that also has the bunk beds in it also.

The other bed is the murphy bed in the middle of the family room.

It beats a regular hotel room, but I expect our kids to be blown away by the 2 bedroom DVC unit that we are staying in this year.

As far as point go, at one point I looked at the cabins and if you take the cash price of the cabin compared to point verses the cash price of a DVC unit verse points, the DVC is a better value.

If you want the cabin, pay cash, I think ours was only $175/night.
I also would not do the cabins without my own car. Although the golf cart rental for the week was fun, expensive, but fun. Oh well,
best of luck deciding. I know we are not going back to the cabins.

That makes it so much easier! We are hoping to get a grand villa at OKW, but since our home resort is SSR, I am a little nervous about the chances of landing the GV (we are planning to go June5-9 2005) and I hate to borrow a ton of points to guarantee a Grand Villa at SSR and then get messed up if we are able to switch to OKW (then I have already borrowed points) Does this make sense?

I had thought of the same thing. I reserved 5 weeknights in July at SSR on December 1. That would have been $180 points with 30 borrowed based on my 150 point contract. If we have then switched to OKW, I would have only used 150 and had the 30 that I had borrowed left over to have to use the same year.

What I ended up doing instead was ccancel my SSR reservation and make another 5 night reservation at BCV at 7 month out. I did have to borrow another 20 points for that, but I knew that I would not have any borrowed points that I had to use in 2004.

That is the good thing about the points required for SSR, they are 10% below BCV, VWL, and BW (non-standard), so I should not ahve the situation that you were worried about unless I go to OKW.

In June, won't there only be 2 GVs available from that 1st bldg?

We are planning on traveling June 2005--I think more buildings will be done by then--I think I have decided to do a 2 br and a 1 br at SSR and then keep my fingers crossed about OKW--the point totals are pretty close
