Wondering if anyone has ever used points to stay at the fort wilderness cabins and if it was worth it-since it seems to run a little higher than the DVC resorts. Thought it would be a great place to stay with younger kids. Appreciate any input. Thanks all!

We used to stay at the cabins before we bought DVC, so we haven't used points to stay there. But we used to love staying there.

It's a great place to stay with young kids. Like DVC, you have the full kitchen setup, however no washer/dryer in the cabins. The laundry is at the pool. A couple of pluses over DVC: daily maid service, and (from our kids point of view), bunk beds! We also enjoyed the privacy the cabins offer, the fact you can drive your car right up to your door, and the different activities you can do at Fort Wilderness.

We bought DVC because we felt we vacation there enough to make an investment and we love having the kitchen. We love DVC, especially the jacuzzi tub at the end of a long day (none in cabin!:( ). We bought at VWL because it has a similar atmosphere to Fort Wilderness and we go over there for the campfire, pony rides, etc.

My kids have asked if we are ever going back to "our cabin." It isn't out of the question that we will ever use points to stay there, we may. But we really love VWL and love the more "luxurious" accomodations (not that the cabins are bad, they're very comfortable and nice). But like you said, the points can be higher so I guess it would depend on time of year, how many points we would use, etc.

Sorry this is so long, if you have any other questions I'll try and answer them for you.

We stayed in the Fort Wilderness cabins on our last trip, June 2002. That was one of my motivating factors in buying into DVC.

Our situation is a family of 6 and the cabins worked great instead of 2 hotel rooms, but if you compare the cabins to a DVC one or two bedroom, there is no question which is bigger and much nicer.

Out next trip, July 2004, we are staying in a 2 bedroom at BVC and will have 2 bathrooms, not one very small one like the cabin.

We will also have a king size bed in our own bedroom compared to the fold-down wall bed in the cabins.

Compared to a DVC studio, the cabins may seems like an improvement, but not even close to the one or two bedrooms.

Not sure how the poitns compare, but I was surprised that the cabins were so many points compared with the cash ressie price verses the number of points for the villas related to their price.

I do agree that the Fort Wilderness resort is very nice. Our kids loved riding around in a golf cart all week, but it's too much like camping for us. I expect them to be even more thrilled at BCV.

There is no bad place to stay at WDW, but I'm glad we have now joined DVC and can afford to move up to the bigger DVC villas.

you will be glad you did. We were there for New Years 1999-2000, and had a great time. The Fort Wilderness atmosphere is so laid back - it's wonderful. It is nice at the end of the day to be able to sit on the deck and chat about your day...

My kids loved the Murphy Bed....

I rented a golf cart one day and had a blast driving around the grounds.....

I say try it - the way I see it, the more WDW resorts you stay at in your life the happier you'll be!!

:)

The cabins are great, my kids loved them! However, you might want to pay cash, and save your points. The cabins often have a discount, you can get them for around $169, which in point cost is about 17 points per night, so if you are using points you will probably be paying way too much. If you already own points, you could rent them out, and then apply the cash you received toward the cost of the cabins. Better yet, stay on points at a DVC resort, and then just go for 3 or 4 days to the cabins on cash. The best idea would be to stay in a 2 bedroom villa for 5 nights, and pay cash for the weekend nights so you get maid service for those two nights(this isn't a members discount, where you don't get maid service, it's CRO)
