We are considering staying in a cabin for 2 nights in February after 5 nights at Pop. If we decide to get a golf cart do we rent it at the Fort? Do we need to reserve it ahead of time or are they always available? How much do they cost per day?
We reserve ours the day we make our site reservation, you need your confirmation number when you reserve a cart, February is a slower time, you might be ok
As other have noted, reserve one as soon as you make the cabin reservation. If you change your mind, you can cancel up to 1 day prior to the pickup date.

The OP of this thread used the term "always available" which made me wince since it infers an unlimited supply of Disney golf carts. But we've had reports that from about 2 weeks before Halloween and looking forward, Disney carts are hard to come by for rentals of a few days or longer at the last minute all the way thru New Years.
Supply IS limited. The Fall months thru New Years travel period are popular with guests (nearly always booked full (certainly on weekends, nearly on weekdays) because folks want to see decorations that campers set up (mostly). I guess the WDW guests at the Disney hotels and time share don't decorate their doors or patios enough to get drive-by traffic, do they?
February is still pretty full on weekends at the Fort (and nearly so on weekdays) but there is no cart demand for drive-by site decorations. February is a good weather month, the RunDisney Princess Half Marathon occurs, rates skyrocket from the January lows to the spring break highs, and plus that's the month of @bama_ed 's birthday (which is reason enough for celebration ). I mean, isn't it?
So the Fort campsites and cabins are popular all year round nearly (which means golf carts will be as well). Imagine if you built resort hotel rooms in the late 70s and NEVER ADDED any more. That's the way Fort Wilderness is. Supply stopped decades ago but demand grew (and grew and grew). The only emergency brake to use is the PRICE of campsites and cabins (and thus golf carts downstream).
Yes, book the golf cart (if you want one) as soon as possible and delete or drop unwanted days the closer to your trip when you know your plans. A bird in the hand .....
We just booked a trip for November 2026 and plan to reserve a golf cart this week as well. We were there last week and the golf cart was great for getting around after a long park day as well as for looking at holiday decorations on the campsites. If you plan any downtime at the campground, they aren’t necessary but are enjoyable.
