Fort Wilderness Cabins

Since FW Resort has become a mod. price resort, can DVC points be used? If so, any idea what the points break down will be? Thanks

I think that you already were able to use points at the FW Cabins - at least it's in the planner. Sun-Thu points range from 29-40 and Fri-Sat 52 - 72 depending on the season.

They moved them into the moderate category, but did not lower the prices to the same as other moderates. Also keep in mind that DVC charges a $95 reservation fee.

I agree with the above posts..........cabins are indeed point purchasable.

HOWEVER, I stayed at the cabins 2x prior to purchasing DVC and would never, ever use my points to stay there again. I do love FW and the cabins but I feel that I get more for my points by using them at a DVC locations: better locations, less points per night for similar accomodations, better pools, etc.

And you know how people complain about the SSR bus service??? It has nothing on FW! You actually have to wait for a bus to take you to the area where you wait for a bus! I felt like our group spent half of our days transporting around town.

I would think that since the cabins were moved to moderate, that at some point the # of pts needed to stay there would drop. Any way to find out if this will happen, maybe beginning next yr??

Think of non-DVC resorts as a different business unit of Disney. If you aren't staying in a DVC resort, it is just like you are staying in a resort owned by a different company. You will, therefore, not get the great prices you paid for in your DVC company.

We never waited more than 5-10 mins. for any bus there in the times i've stayed there. When you get to the front, there is almost always a bus waiting for you to take you where you want to go. Another nice thing, when you exit the MK, you go straight down to the dock, no tredging over to the buses and their long lines. same as when you arrive at MK, you are dropped off right in the front and can get a jump on arriving monorails and bus crowds.
Also, i noticed on the website, the $95 fee still applies to the cabins but no longer for the campsites which makes me very happy!

How many points are the campsites?

depending on season, from 6 pts weeknights in low season to 10 pts weeknights in high season; then weekends from 11 pts a weekend night for low season to 19 pts weekend night in high season. hope that makes sense! At least with them waiving the $95 fee for the campsites, it's not too bad since the sites themselves aren't that expensive per night for cash.

Maybe now with the new bus system in place for awhile now, it has improved. It seems we see more Ft. wild/wild. lodge buses coming and going than any other. Another thing is they never seem to be crowded like the others either. Sometimes, riding an internal bus, you will be the only one on the bus and you have your own personal ride!

FABULOUS news for me. We used to use our pts all the time to organize a family camping trip with grandparents, etc, and was floored when I read we would have to pay $95 for an 11 point campsite. Thought our DVC camping days were over.

i know, that IS great news. I had called them when i originally found this out and told them what i thought of the new fee. it just didn't make sense to charge $95 for a campsite that cost $40-75 or 11 pts and to charge that same $95 to someone for the grand floridian. they said they listen to feedback, maybe they really do!
