Fort Wilderness Cabins?????

Our family (wife, daughters 6, 4 and 22 months) will be going to WDW in October of 2008. Our first 4 nights we will be staying at Beach Club Villas. The last 3 nights we are seriously considering staying at the Fort Wilderness Cabins. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on a different resort for us to stay at for the last 3 nights of our trip. Also looking for feedback on the Cabins. Thanks in advance for any input!!

I haven't stayed in a cabin, but do love Fort Wilderness! For a family your size it's a good option.

I'm going to suggest you try posting this just down the board a bit on the Camping forum; stuff like this is discussed all the time and you should get some good replies.

DW and I bought into DVC after a stay last Christmas in the FW cabins. I know there seems to be a disconnect there, but the separate room for my then 2-year-old, the full kitchen and the privacy of the resort made for the most relaxing vacation to WDW we had ever had. DW and I had stayed at FW previously in a rental RV; the resort is fantastic. I'm sure you have read about the nightly campfire and movie, the hay rides, livery, the bike barn, etc. There is so much to do here, it is incredible. We love it.

We have stayed in the Wilderness Cabins twice. Last time was in April, 2007. We love the privacy and quietness of this resort! Your children would probably love the bunk beds in the bedroom. We enjoyed having a kitchen. It is a GREAT resort, only problem we had was the bus service to the parks is a little confusing and it takes a little longer to get to the parks. We drove our car to all parks except the Magic Kingdom. There are many activities at this resort as well.

HIT: Book a golf cart, and do it ahead of arrival.

Thanks for everyone' s reponses. We are probably going to just go to Magic Kingdom while we are there. Does everyone still think we should rent a golf cart? Thanks for all of the help.

We stayed in a cabin with six of us and had a good time. Doing both the cabins and a traditional resort will work out very well for you in my opinion. The drawback of the cabins is that they are in a large campground and it is some distance getting from place to place. The upside is the natural settings and quiet and privacy and ability to make your own meals if you wish.

As for the golf cart - If you are only going to the MK you may not need one. Fort Wilderness does have an internal bus system that can take you to the entrance (to pick up a bus to the parks), gift shops, pool and marina area where you can get a launch to MK. It may be a short walk to the nearest bus stop (we were lucky and were very close) and it does take more time than if you have your own cart. The bus service was not too fast. We did rent a cart and it was fun driving it around but in our case we couldn't fit everyone on the cart at one time so we had to make multiple trips some times. For us it was worth it not to have to wait for a bus but that is up to you. You don't have to have one to get around but it does make it easier.
