We are looking to go to WDW with mom. In Sept and everyone here has been great so thank you again.

Here is my question
We need 2 rooms My mom & DH I think need some privacy.
That gets pretty pricey so I looked at the cabins at FW the price seems right.

How are they for people in wheel chairs/ECV's?
Mom can use bed room & use on the Murphy bed or vis versa.

How is the transportation? from FW
I could only get AAA discount so far on @ rooms Cont. for about 2267.00
1 bed room villa SS 1062.00
or Cabin 732.00
Going 9/27-9/30 3-nights room only

Any thoughts?

My family, me, Dh, and mom were in the Ft. Wilderness cabins in December. We requested a cabin with a ramp only (didn't need handicap accessible restroom) and we had 2 ECV's . It was nice having that much room. If your mother has to be in a wheelchair all the time, the bedroom is not really large enough for that, but the living room area is until the Murphy bed is pulled down. We parked the ECV's in the kitchen everynight and plugged them in there, because that is the only area they would fit in. We had some difficulty getting the ECV through the door, but that was probably just me (I'm a bad driver in small spaces). DH had no problem getting them in there for us. The bathroom is very roomy, as is the living room, but the bedroom is small. It was probably much easier than having 2 Value resort rooms, because they couldn't guarantee us adjoining rooms and I had to be close by my mom, in case she needed me.

Transportation was quite confusing (not so much for those that are used to it). There are buses that run through the loop areas that run from the loops to the front of the resort and others that run from the loop areas to the back of the resort. You have to remember which color goes where. We usually had to wait for a 3rd or 4th bus to come by to go to the parks before we could board, because they were usually full from the people they picked up at Wilderness Lodge, so it was easier for us to just load the ECV's into the back of the minivan and go to the park. Luckily the boat to the MK was one that would allow WC/ECV's, but we still had to get them on a bus back to our loop.

All in all it was a good experience and it only cost $209.15/night with my AAA discount. That includes the $5/night for an extra adult. I don't know anything about the other resort you have looked at, but when we go next December, we are going to try for one of the Family Suites at All Star Music

Check Allearsnet.com for alot of information and pictures of the cabins.

Good Luck with planning.

If you have any questions about the Fort as a whole, the camping board might be a good place to go. Depending on where your cabin is, and how active you're feeling, you may not have to catch the internal buses, instead you could walk / wheel to the main bus stops and then go from there. As PrincessSuzanne said, there is a boat to MK from the marina, which would also take you to Contemporary so you could hop a Monorail to Epcot. Just to give you an idea of the size of the place, here's a website made by a fellow Diser with a number of walks around FW (including time taken):

And here's a map of the resort:

Please excuse the rather garbled nature of the reply, but I hope this helps :thumbsup2 !

Thank goodness I have a power wheelchair as the location of my accessible cabin was an extreme distance from the bus stop. I didn't like the cabins- way too dark for me and also there was no privacy in the living room with the murphy bed pulled down ( which is impossible for someone confined to a w/c to pull down ). The bedroom was teensy with an additional teensy tv. I guess I'm not a camper. ---Kathy
