I am just looking for some feedback at staying at their cabins. We are a family of 5, and wondering if this is the best place to stay for our money. I am not expecting luxury but don't want to be roughing it.

I don't plan on cooking and would get the dinning plan.

I've never stayed in a cabin, but they look nice, and have all the amenities you'd expect, including AC/heat. As a family of 5, most deluxes and at least one moderate (Port Orleans - Riverside) could also accommodate you. A regular room might be smaller, but might also cost less.

My daughter and her friends stayed in the cabins a few years ago....all the comforts of home, however, it takes a while to get to and from the buses for the parks. Have you looked at the pictures of them and other hotels on Allears.net? ASM's has new suite rooms you could book...probably less than the cabins.

:wave2: Hi,I think you will love the cabins. We have stayed there the last two years and although it was just DH and myself it was great.
No need to cook unless you want to but, it's great to have the fridge and microwave for drinks and popcorn late at night.
It's quiet and very peaceful. I love going to the settlement and sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch of the little store and people watching.
The launch is fun for adults and kids alike to go over to Magic Kingdom for the day or the Comtemporary for dinner.
The internal bus system while not a total pain in the butt, can be challenging to those of us(me) with little to no patience to get there fast, now and quicker .:moped:
It isn't camping out rustic(unless you plan to camp out) even then those campers seem to have pretty spiffy sites and vehicles too. I like the woodsy feel and think it will be great :cloud9: for your family.
Saying by now
Have a great day  !

The Pools are also very kid friendly at the All Stars.

If anyone wants more info about the All Stars just PM me.

Have fun at Disney!

Five can stay also at POR.

We always stayed at POR and last year we had to go to Ft. Wilderness because nothing was available. It was nice to have extra space, but it didn't feel like a vacation. We missed the hotel feel. It is very quiet, but an absolute pain to get around. People rent golf carts to make it easier. Also, the pools are pretty basic rectangles. We have POR booked again for this upcoming vacation.

You certainly won't be "roughing it" at the Fort Wilderness Cabins. Yes, it's rustic but there's plenty of room and the deck outside is wonderful. I found it to be one of my favorite places to stay. You get everything you would at another resort. Housekeeping every day and heaven forbid if you leave one glass in the sink. It will be put in the dishwasher and the cycle run for you. About the only thing you will have to do is put the dishes away once you return. We had a ton of towels in the bathroom. Plenty of privacy as well. The bedroom with the double bed and the bunk beds had its own door to close from the main area plus a door to go out to the deck. I used that in the morning while my son and daughter-in-law slept in the living room on the Murphy bed. I sat on the deck and waited for our granddaughter and then my husband to emerge. It really is a nice arrangement for a family of five. We didn't cook either but sure did appreciate the big kitchen and the full size refrigerator.

Your "do not disturb" sign is a little magnet that you put on your front door at night. I never saw housekeeping at all. You even get Express check-out. If you have a car, the receipt will be on your front window. About the only other advice I can give you is to pack a few flashlights. It gets dark there.

A few years ago we decided to try something different. We usually stay at a value resort (2 rooms). So my family of 6 decided to try FW. It was a very pleasant experience. The rooms were nicely decorated. The kitchette was a nice benefit. We saved money by starting each day with breakfast in our room. Sometimes the kids ate out on the deck. This was a treat for our 4 who never camped before. The murphy bed was comfortable however, the amount of storage was limited. We did not have enough dresser space.

All the CMs we encountered were very pleasant. They would never pass you without a greeting or a wave.

The pools were okay. They were just rectangular pools. But the only difference between the FW pools and the value resort pools is the shape. There are no slides at the value pools either.

We had a car which made travelling around easier. I would suggest a car when you stay here. I know people do stay at FW and rely on Disney's transportation. But if you're doing a lot of trips to and from the room - your vacation will be easier and you won't feel like you spent a good portion of your vacation waiting for transportation.

We stayed at the cabins last Chrsitmas for the first time and now will not stay anywhere else!! They are GREAT. There is a lot of room, you won't feel cramped at all (especially looking at those pictures of the new suites seem small)! We also used the dining plan, but it was nice to have the kitchen for snacks, full fridge for drinks, ect.. We did rent a golf cart which made it easier (and everyone enjoyed), but the buses are always running pretty non~stop and not far to walk from the loops to catch an internal one. They are by far NOT rustic, they do have the cabin home feel to them. You cannot beat the privacy and quietness.
The pools are a bit plain, but they are a nice nice and I think the other activities in FW make up for the themed pools. The kids love the campfires and the nightly movies! I don't think you would be dissapointed at all :thumbsup2

Our family of five (kids aged 7,5,2 at the time) stayed there last spring...we enjoyed it very much. My middle child was into the idea of "camping," and this was our version of it. The cabin was nice and comfortable, and the theme was fun. I would absolutely suggest a car. Their internal bus system, and the fact that there is no parking at the Settlement (restaurants and shops, beach) is a little inconvenient. Try to get a cabin near the smaller pool, which is nicer than the large, overcrowded, main pool...although that one has a playground and "fishing" and things. I think we were on Possum Track or something, we just walk over to the small pool. It is a neat experience and just as "Disney" even if not in a hotel. I personally did not like the look of the actual camping areas, with the campers and tents, it all looked messy to me (just my own opinion - and I am not a camper), but the cabins are in different areas off to themselves. Have fun!

We just got back from the FW cabins and we loved it. We are also a family of five, kids ages 7, 13 and 15. The cabins were roomy enough, although it would have been nice to have two bathrooms. I loved the fact that we can park our car right in front of the cabin which made commuting to the parks super easy. We also rented a golf cart which was a great way to get around FW. I hate to cook on vacation too but we did enjoy having the kitchen to make snacks and a quick breakfast.

I think you will enjoy FW cabins. Look into getting an annual pass because you an score big discounts on the cabins that way. Our rate went from $300 to $185 per night.
