Have any of you ever rented a golfcart during a stay at the FWC??
If so, is it a big bonus to have when trying to access the boat dock to go the MK?
Approximately how long does it take to ride a golfcart to the dock versus walking?

:thanks:

I suggest asking your question on the camping board here on the DIS. I will move your post there.

Golf carts, that is one of our favorite subjects..... Most here either rent while they are there, or own their own.

We rented one last month for 11 days, we love it. With a golf cart, you can do a dis board favorite activity.... looping. You hop in your cart with your family and ride around each loop looking at other campers, cabins, and decorations.

There are internal buses at the fort, that with a little understanding can take you everywhere.

As far as walking, you can walk anywhere, but depending on what loop you are in, it could be a LONG walk..

Look at the sticky at the top of the camping forum and look at the map of fort wilderness.... its a big place...

OH YEAH, :welcome: to the camping board....

Hey everybody, while we're on the subject of golf carts...how much is it to rent one? I've read so much about looping that I feel we'd be missing something if we didn't rent one for at least a day. I KNOW I've ready it here somewhere, but I'm MUCH too lazy to search for it and since you all love to talk about them so much I figure I'm safe to ask again :D.

Hey Monica, when we were there last month they were $49 a day, with 10% discount for 7 or more days. They aren't necessary, but they sure are fun.

If you're fit or maybe a bit younger than us it probably wouldn't be a big deal to wait on the buses, sometimes overcrowded buses, or maybe walk halfway down the fort to the dock. They worked for us the first time we visited. Of course they are overrpriced as most things in a controlled environment are but they sure are helpful.

When we were there in 2006 we did not get a golf cart. The busses were not a problem but I wish we had one. For our trip next year, the golf cart is definitely getting rented

Golf carts are half the fun of the fort. I enjoyed renting one so much on my last trip to FW that I came home and bought one to cruise around my neighborhood in....but it aint the same as looping the fort. At the fort, I actually LIKE my neighbors!!!

GOLF CARTS & the FORT,,they just go together,,like Dean&Jerry or Ben&Jerry or Right&Left or Kungaloosh&FWguy or ntsammy&beer or Otters&Peacocks or,,well you get the picture ,,they are just a way of life at the Fort.

most of us get addicted to having a golf cart and get one ourselves...we paid a small amount for a hideous pink golf cart and tore it down and redid it our way...it works to go to the store, but mostly, it sits on the trailer

we are glad we have it because it comes in REAL handy come hurricane season...we had 29 days with no power and it sure beat using our gas in our cars!

Thanks John..EEEK 49 a day??? That cuts into my food and beer budget. :lmao: I'm not sure I can handle that. What can I cut out?

I think from the cabins..you kind of need it. Unless of course you are driving and are able to bring your bikes. We stayed in the cabins in August..and it was hot as..well, you know. ;) We didn't have it the first two days, but then we were able to snag one..and it made the trip much more enjoyable. I didn't like having to wait in the heat to take a bus to the pool or to the marina area. They were slow ...and at the time the kids were young..and well, lets just say the Golf cart REALLY came in handy. They are great fun too!:cutie:

Golf carts rule. I bought a second one this past thursday to take to FW on our next trip. Renting them dose get costly but if you plan on spending time in FW and not just at the parks they are worth it.

I highly recommend it!! Not sure if your traveling with kids but makes life so much easier to be able to jump in and go. Every loop has a bus stop as well but they tend to run slow. Walking to catch the boat is probably not an option...a bit of a hike unless your in a loop right there by pioneer halls but I think they tend to be handicapped or VIP reserved. The cart is great to take to the pool, movie, pioneer hall, catch the boat. Great parking for it! Plus nice just to cruise around and catch the sites or take the kiddies to the playgrounds, etc! Enjoy...FW is still our favorite place to stay :thumbsup2

We're getting a cart in December. Just want to ride around and gawk at the decorations!

Ooh! A contest! Who gets to vote? Does tiggerinbama have a regular site number or location (I've heard people do that for the holidays who are regulars).

Thanks for the battery advice. How long does one battery last?

You should be fine looking at everything if you have a full charge. I just wouldn't go all day running around and THEN decide to go and look. Yes, tiggerinbama has a site she normally requests. She stays for about 2 months. From what she told me, the CM's vote. I never found out what the prize was. I just don't have that much time on my hands! She used 4 site's worth of outlets!
