We've stayed at dixie landings, grand floridian, beach club, wilderness lodge in a jr. suite, all-stars with adjoining rooms and last trip old key west in 2 br villa as our family has grown. We are now a family of 8 ( 2 adults, 16, 14, 12, 8, 6, 2). Fort Wilderness looks interesting but could this group fit in a cabin or would we suffer cabin overload! I would prefer not to have 2 separate cabins. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Okie,
While we haven't stayed there yet I just booked a one night stay at The Fort Wilderness Cabins at the beginning of our trip. I am anxious to hear what others have to say about them. We decided when we had an opportunity to add one more night to our stay to try someplace different. I booked with Dreams Unlimited Travel, they have been great so far. I should have used them for the whole trip. We also have CBR booked for the remainer of our trip.

Don't the FW cabins have a 6 person limit? You could fit everyone if one slept on the couch, but I don't know if they allow more than 6. Also, there's only one bathroom. That's a lot of people for just one bathroom!

We stayed there many years ago when they were just trailers. We really enjoyed it. But, we only had 3 adults and 2 children. I was a bit young to remember or care at the time whether it was crowded, but I'm told the bathroom did get a bit busy now and then.

I don't know, I'd stick with the 2br villa...more room, 2 bathrooms!

you may be a bit tight.... there is a Murphy Bed in the living room (sleeps 2), a full size bed (sleeps 2) & a set of twin bunk beds (sleeps 2) in the bedroom....that is a total of 6 (that is what is allowed...plus I think they will allow the 2 yr old). You are one person over by the fire code limits. You also have to remember 8 people & one bathroom... 3 of them are teens! I don't know about your teens, but mine are in the bathroom a good 30-45 minutes each every morning. I think I would skip the cabins & go for 2 rooms somewhere else.....like maybe 2 rooms at the All Stars?????

We stayed there last year and it was nice and roomy for the three of us, but I think eight people would be crowded. Also, we didn't think the murphy bed was very comfortable, but that could have just been the one in our cabin (we only used it to lay down while watching tv late at night). The cabin itself was very nice; it was so relaxing to have a private "home" to come back to after a day at the parks and it's very quiet and peaceful there. It was also great to have the full kitchen; we'd eat breakfast in the cabin, have lunch in the park, come back to the cabin for the afternoon, eat dinner, then head back out to another park. Have fun wherever you decide to stay!

There is only room for 6. We were 6 last year and it was OK, but with 8, I think you'd be pushing it. There simply isn't that much room to store luggage, etc. With 6 the storage was tight.

The couch is not very long. A child could easily sleep on it or perhaps a short adult. There literally is not really any floor space to put out an air mattress, not when the Murphy bed is pulled down. The cabins are great and having a kitchen is wonderful, but I think with 8 you'd probably be SAD :(

While the cabins are great, and I would stay again, I don't know how you'll manage with all the gear you'll need for eight people. I found the storage space to be barely adequate for the five of us,... there is only one small dresser, and a small closet space in the bunk bed room. The bunks are really cramped for anyone over 5 feet I think.... as is the couch. We had our "stuff" spread out all over the place, and I thought I had packed fairly light. Not only that, but we found renting a golf cart to be a necessity, and they only seat four safely - five is pushing it... so if you are considering it, you'd need to rent two carts. Our crew consisted of two adults, and three kids - 10, 8 and 6. Hope this helps.
