This is our famiy's very first trip to Disney. :cool1:
We have booked the Fort Wilderness Cabin for our week long stay and had a few questions regarding the cabins.

Does anyone know if you can request a cabin loop or a specific cabin?
If so, which would be the best area and/or cabin to stay at?

We are bringing our car. Will we be able to use it on the grounds or are we going to have to rent a cart to get around the grounds?

Also, I know it says it is a comfortable place for six people, but did you truly feel like you had enough space?

Thanks for your help. :flower1:

It's been a few years since we stayed there, but I think I can answer a couple of your questions.

I never requested a particular loop, but I imagine that you can. Just remember that it is only a request. Also, check a map to make sure, but I think the cabin loops are the furthest from the food/boats/buses/etc. and I'm not sure it really matters.

I don't think you can use your car within FW. There is no parking available at bus stops/boat dock/restaurant/store/etc. That would really spoil the feel anyway if there were cars buzzing all over the place, but you can use your car to leave FW and go to parks and other places if you want, but Disney transportation is very good and we love not having to drive everywhere. It's just another way to spoil ourselves on vacation. We never rented a golf cart because it was an added expense we couldn't afford at the time, but there is an internal bus that picks people up at each loop and takes them to the action.

As far as comfort in the cabins, if it is six adults I would say there are better options. We are a family of six and stayed in the cabins several times when our four kids were younger (elementary age) and LOVED them and FW. It was great to have a quick cereal/bagel breakfast to save a little money (it was never worth it at Disney to spend lots on breakfast, the kids just didn't eat enough). When the kids became teens we switched to two connecting rooms to have the extra bathroom (no more night time baths...everyone wanted to shower in the mornings.!)

Overall, I think you will love FW and the cabins. You might spend a little more time getting around because of having to take a golfcart or bus to get to the hub, but if your relaxing and enjoy the woodsy feel it is a great place to stay with lots to do.

Have a great time!

We stayed at FW a few years ago. I know that you can request a loop - and we did. However, I do not remember our loop number. I remember requesting one close to the entrance and the smaller pool.

We have 6 in our family. At the time the children were 13, 11, 9, and 9. We fit comfortably. The deck was a wonderful amenity. The kids would play on it while I prepared breakfast. It was like having another room. You may have to schedule shower use - as we always do. Younger kid shower at night and adults in the morning. Otherwise, I can imagine the line for the bathroom can get pretty long and teenage girls can get pretty nasty. DH and I slept on the murphy bed and the kids slept in the bedroom. The murphy was pretty comfortable and we were well rested for the next day of activities. (This is from someone who goes to the parks for EE and stays until closing.)

Our only complaint was there is not enough closet/drawer space. We were cramped when it came to storing our clothes.

Also, the cabins are not spaced out as far as I thought they would be. We never heard any one coming or going, but I just thought that they put 3 cabins where they should of put 2! I think the closest cabin was about 30 feet away. Just don't be surprised to see the cabins close together.

The cars can only be driven to your site. Also, you can visit the stores & park for only a brief time. We did not rent a golf cart. We used our car to get to the parks and used Disney transportation to go to the HDD.

Our next visit is coming up in June. We are staying at the PC (to same some $$). But if the kids and DH had their way, we would be back at FW. I know you'll have a wonderful time.

If you want to be near the pool and a bus stop, request the 2500 loop. It is very convenient. Keep in mind that the cabins are fairly long distance from the campfire/movie, Pioneer Hall/Trail's End, and marina. You are discouraged from driving around in your own vehicle. There is no parking anywhere anyway. We always rent a golf cart for moving around the Fort. It is nice to have, but you don't have to have one to enjoy your stay.

Thank you! I think we will have a great time on our first adventure to Disney. Your advice was great. Our children are still small (4, 7, 9, & 10) so I think there will be plenty of space for us at the Cabins. We are looking forward to finally getting there (June 2005). :cheer2:

Thanks for your help.

We stayed in the Cabins in 2000 with 6 people...3 adults and three children. It was fabulous! We did request a certain loop and did get it, however cannot remember which one (it was close to the pool). The buses inside Fort Wilderness are great and they will take you out of the part or down to the water where you can eat, catch a boat etc. You can take your car to the store also if you want. We found the cabin to be a good size and the murphy bed was only pulled out at bedtime. You will have a great time...enjoy!

We stayed at FW cabins in Jan. 2005 and we loved everything about it! I think your kids will really have fun. We just have two girls (10 & 6), but the bunk bed was one of the highlights of their stay! They even wanted to use the pull down bed but we never did.

We loved the space of the cabins. Our girls played on the deck sometimes too! For us the best thing was being able to have breakfast every day there with the kitchen plus have drinks and snacks handy to come back to at the end of the day.

We stayed in the 2100 loop by request and found that fairly convenient. We did walk to the pool once, which wasn't far by adult standards but did meet with complaints from our 6 year old! Otherwise we took the buses throughout the campground. We loved taking the boat launch to get to MK but also never felt we waited long at all for any of the buses. Husband says he will rent a golf cart next time we are there, just for the fun of getting around on your own. You can not drive your car throughout the campground.

I had read many reviews that called the cabins dark and wasn't sure what to make of that. They were not brightly lit but we didn't find it a problem by any means...just felt like a cabin in the woods!

Take a night to do the campfire with Chip and Dale one night, my kids loved that! Have fun!
