As a Pensacola native, our family often went camping out at Fort Pickens Campground. It's still one of my most favorite places to go. Here's what Ivan did to Fort Pickens:

yes, this is where the road used to be!

:(
I too spent alot of nights camping at FT Pickens or just enjoying the fort and beaches for the day.
I couldn't believe how much water is surrounding the fort!
My parent's best freinds were down there to work as campground hosts/ checkin for the winter.... they won't be doing that now!

If you want to see the damage my condo building got, click on 402. Along the bottom looks dark..that's were the ground floor units used to be... and the very bottom is the footings of the buildings showing.

I hope things are slowly getting back to normal for you:D

Five Flags Inn

My husband used to work with one of the owners of the Five Flags Inn, the 2 story building in the foreground of the above photo. It was such a quaint little motel that was so much fun.

I hope they are able to rebuild.

Things are pretty much back to normal in my neighborhood, except for the blue roofs and debris alongside the roads.

When I was young, you could not even see the gulf from the road while driving to the Fort, due to the mountainous dunes. There was just something special about being out at the Fort. Even though the Naval Base was just across the bay (with the jets buzzing overhead) you felt like you were a million miles away from everything. We were just out there a week before the storm....the pictures of all the water in the seawall in hard to comprehend. Looking at those pictures makes you hurt inside.

Never stayed at the Five Flags Inn. Probably the last hotel of it's kind on the Island. I'm would imagine it will be replaced.

Good old Tiffany's is still standing!
