Any info on Fort Myers beach as a 2nd week place to stay. Still dithering over the best location. Tried St petes beach but nothing suitable and we want really to be further south so that we can cruise to Key West and that leaves from FM so on the face of it seems ideal. All info welcome(again!)

We've stayed in Cape Coral, which is just across the river from Fort Myers. Although we drove into FM on a couple of occasions, I didn't really see enough to get an impression of the place.

Got married on Barefoot beach at Christmas. There are some very select beaches down there. Lots of private ones , and the public ones seemed to have full car parks by mid day. The beaches are nature reserves where you see lots of exotic animals. There are lots of Restaurants on the beach, we found the worst one 'Junkanoo',the food was the worst we've ever had.I'm sure there are good ones though. On the whole it's a place we really like, and would love to go back some day.

Hi everyone,

Well I live in ft Myers and think its a great place. We moved from the uK 15 months ago and love it here.
The beaches are great and Sanibel Island and Captiva are great.
YOu can indeed cruise to the keys from Salty Sams marina and also hire boats from there as Well.
Loads of RestaURANTS AND GREAT SHOPPING. Choose Ft Myers and have a great time

Sarah.

:D We love Ft Myers and surrounding area - so much we're off there next year for two and a half weeks:sunny:

There's loads to do around the area - or nothing at all if you just want to chill out and relax.

You're only a little down the road from Captiva and Sanibel, further down a couple of hours max are the Everglades, the beaches are great and there's all sorts of restaurants.

We also discovered a really great mini-golf last year, Castle I think it was called, or something like that cos it's shaped like a castle:p Really nice one, well kept.

Well worth a stay IMHO.
