Went to see Michael W. Smith and Steven Curtis Chapman last night. Great concert, but dang that alarm was early this morning.

I enjoy both of them!! I especially love the lyrics and music that Michael W. Smith comes up with. Truly inspirational!!

That's okay "Franky". When I was a kid I really disliked spaghetti sauce...so my mom would serve me buttered spaghetti noodles & would "wash" the meatballs. I don't ever recall mom making chili, do you Al? And Frank...it wasn't until I was an adult that I would eat chili beans. They always reminded me of "paste in a shell". So, I understand you not liking beans.

They did a good combined show. They both have made some good songs. I didn't realize until last night that one of Smith's songs I have always liked was a tribute to one of the girls killed at Columbine. Adds a new meaning to it.

Yeah, This Is Your Time has always been a heart-string-puller for me, but I always knew the meaning of the song. Wikipedia has some good info on the song (which I've edited here for readability):

In 1999, Smith released This Is Your Time, written by Smith and Wes King (brother-in-law of Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris), which was inspired by the Columbine shootings. The song is about Cassie Bernall, one of the students who was killed during the Columbine massacre. She was killed when one of the shooters reportedly asked her if she believed in God, and she said "yes". In the music video for this song, the beginning shows a real video of Cassie talking about her religious beliefs and how she wanted to spread the word of God. Smith was asked to perform at some of the memorial services that were held in honor of the victims, which made a huge impression on him.

That was it. I couldn't catch the name of the song last night, but he talked about the inspiration for it. I've been listening to the words all this time w/o knowing where they came from. We bought the latest CD from Chapman last night, also the new one from Smith that comes out next week. I'll be listening to both of them more closely.

I also didn't realize until last night that it was only 6 months ago that Chapman's daughter was killed. I knew that she was one of the two daughters that inspired "Cinderella" but I thought that her death was a year or so earlier. He had to be out on tour again 2 months after her death, and said he couldn't sing that song for a while.

Those 2 songs made more of an impression than anything else last night, and there was a lot to think about between both of those guys. I've always believed that I need to be doing everything possible to "be with" my family, though I get bogged down in the everyday stresses just like everyone else and I find myself going through the motions all too often. Those 2 songs point out better than anything else I've heard that you'd better be fully involved with all of them. You have no idea when those times will end.

When I'm dying I woun't care about work projects or deadlines, or how much money I have in the bank. It's all about living this life that we have. Why can't I keep that focus while the life is ongoing?
