FORT FIENDS DREAM CRUISE Sept 4th, 2011 (Labor Day Week)

Rog - I'm loving your new 4th of July ticker. Yay for having a Fort trip coming up to ease the wait of the cruise!!! :thumbsup2

:) I had NO INTENTION AT ALL of booking that trip!!! It just happened on a spur of the moment....but it DOES help ease the pain of waiting!!

Here is some more information on the Dream! It's on USA Today.

Disney Dream to test waters of onboard interactivity

When the Disney Dream debuts next year, the ship will feature a bunch of technology-based cruise industry firsts in the entertainment realm. And we're not just talking the previously announced first water coaster at sea and artwork that comes to life (becoming animated as you look at it).

Other cool techno features, revealed today, will include a re-imagined Animator's Palate restaurant that virtually takes guests under the sea.

A popular restaurant on Disney's two present ships, Magic and Wonder, Animator's Palate starts out as a black and white space and gets colorful as dinner progresses. On Dream, it will transform, with the help of wall-mounted LCD screens, into an undersea environment, with views of a colorful coral reef and the sea creatures that reside there. And during dinner, Crush, the surfer-dude sea turtle from "Finding Nemo" will make an appearance, swimming around the restaurant and engaging in impromptu interactions with guests via the screens. Other characters such as Nemo, Dory, Squirt and Bruce the shark swim by and visit too.

Another cool new Dream feature: An Interactive Play-floor at the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab children's centers, where kids will be able to control game action with their movement. For instance, in one activity kids scramble around the perimeter of the floor while their movements control the pitch of a tilt maze.

Youth counselors will also use the floor for interactive storytelling – children will be able to virtually fly over the streets of London with Peter Pan, for instance.

As previously announced there will also be "live" characters in the children's areas that kids can interact with, including Crush, on a 103-inch screen. And inside cabins will feature Virtual Portholes offering a "window" to the world, via screens with feeds from real-time high-definition cameras positioned outside the ship.

The Dream will feature Enchanted Art throughout – in reality framed LCD screens made to look like artwork until they recognize guests are present and suddenly come alive. Turns out that art will also be used as part of a one-of-a-kind, detective-themed adventure quest on the ship, where guests will find either stolen artwork or missing puppies. The adventure game is self-paced and designed for all ages. --Fran Golden

Ok - The Dis is acting all weird!! Please ignore the double post!

And Carol - ouch about the passports. I need to get them for my DGD and DSD. Better get them quick.

Ya know...I was expecting some of the excitement to wear off by now...but NOPE.......Im still just as excited today as I was the day we decided we'd all get together and make this happen!!!!!

So...is anyone still sitting on the fence....undecided if they are going to go with us or not? We'd LOVE for more people to join this cruise....you know how it gets when you have a large group of crazy people get together for good times...and this just may be the ULTIMATE good time!!!

I found this online...Castaway has some extremely fun reno's goin on that will be complete before we get there!!!!

Castaway Cay Is Even Cooler

I also found some real details on some of the entertainment areas (mostly for the kids' areas).....

Dream Details

Man, that looks great. I so wish we were going. Nancy might be convinced, she has been talking about it, but not sure if we can take the kids out of school. Plus, we just don't have the deposit right now. But I love living vicariously through all this planning you guys are doing.

If we don't do the cruise, maybe we'll do a trip to the Fort just before you guys all go on the cruise. The Fort prices are not too bad in August and I could really use some time to mellow.

I thought the price of a passport was already near $100 to begin with? I think Nancy and I paid that price last summer. It is a little cheaper for kids and they have a passport card option.

I still have an old passport around somewhere and I look like a kid in the photo, seems so long ago. We also have Justin's first passport from when he was three and I had to take a business trip to Barbados (they had to really twist my arm hard for that :lmao:)

Ive been reading the cruise boards about Nassau...WOW......sounds like SCAM CENTRAL!!! I wasnt sure about checking it out to begin with...but Im now CERTAINLY not gonna bother even getting off of the boat...why doesnt DCL drop that stop from their itenerary??? Nassau is listed in the top 5 most dangerous ports in the world!! WTH????

Somewhat on the fence since we already have other vacation plans ($$) made so this would add to expenses. But pretty sure that my sister & I are going. Just have to get word from DH if he is going or not....that'll tell me one room or two.

Thats great Mel!!!! Cancel those other plans and cruise with us!!!!! :)

That's great, the more the merrier. I was on the phone with the contact I am dealing with at Group Reservations and she said she might join us.

Rog - don't worry about it being dangerous. We get off the ship in Nassau every time we go there. It's like any other city in the world -- you don't want to walk down any dark alleys at night. But, we'll only be there during the day.

It's fun to walk through the Straw Market and buy cheap stuff. (By "cheap" I do not mean inexpensive. LOL)

Senior Frogs is fun too! It's the only place you will wear a balloon on your head and not feel out of place! And, you don't need to be drinking to do it!!

It's nice to climb up the Queen's Staircase, and then walk up to the old Fort. It's small, and only takes a few minutes to see. But, it's nice to see other culture and talk to the locals.

There are cheap places to eat really good food too! (and by "cheap" I DO mean inexpensive, LOL)

Rog, I'm agreeing with Rhonda. Plus, there's safety in numbers. Would you mess with our group if you didn't know us?

We have been there 4 times, never any trouble.
