Got a couple of coffee questions for y'all.

Mr. FFerret HAS to have heavy cream for morning coffee--is that for sell at the fort or do I need to get a net grocer? Also what kind of filters do I need to bring? Thanks much!

I guess my next question has to do with scotch :) Anybody have any experience stowing it away in luggage? Can it be purchased at the airport?

I've never seen heavy cream at the Fort.

I would check with the airline to get a sure answer on packing liquor in your suitcase. As far as liquor being sold at MCO .... unless something has changed in the last couple of months, there are no liquor stores at the airport. There is a liquor store at the CR....just a quick boat ride from FW dock to CR dock! Meadow Trading Post also has a small selection of liquors. Beware - Disney prices on any kind of libations are very high.

Many liquor brands are now being sold in plastic bottles. Go to your local liquor store and get what you need. Put it in about 3 ziploc bags (just in case it leaks), and put it in your checked luggage.

However, be aware that some luggage handlers and TSA agents have been known to have sticky fingers and since you can't lock your luggage........

If I remember correctly, I believe I saw cream at both of the stores at the Fort, but someone correct me if I am wrong.

As far as alcohol, you can bring it in your checked luggage, but not in your carry on. I believe the limit is 5 liters of the hard stuff.

If you have room in your luggage, could you get some of those individual creamers and bring a box of those? That way, Mr. FFerret is guaranteed his cream.

The O.P. stated heavy cream - as in whipping cream. I don't think they have that at Meadow(s) or Settlement. Half 'n Half, maybe - but not heavy cream. To be honest, I've not seen a carton of half 'n half, either. Coffeemate powdered, half 'n half in the little cups at the coffee stations, but not a carton of half 'n half.

ETA: Because you asked about coffee filters, I take it you are staying in a cabin. The last time I stayed in a cabin was about 12 years ago & they provided the coffee filters then. You might want to call the front desk & ask before you get here. Also - if you have access to a vehicle there is an ABC Liquor Store and a Winn Dixie in a plaza about 10 miles from the Fort. It's an easy drive.

They do have Half n- Half, at crazy Fort prices for a smalllllllll carton, but they do have it!!!!

A buddy of mine in the Army used to get Crown Royal on the plane by emptying a couple hydrogen peroxide bottles and filling them with it. No matter where in the world we went, I could always count on Bruce having a stash.

now thats a true friend.

Heavy cream is the same as whipping cream? Wow, that's thick! I just bought some whipping cream to test that faux Dole Whip recipe, and had a little left over. Tried it in my coffee, and the spoon almost stood straight up in it.

(Of course, coffee aficionados would shiver because I put skim milk in my coffee...)

Heavy cream is WHIPPED into whip cream:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: It's not whip cream when you buy it. It's superthick, though--comes in a milk carton. Your can pour it.

Mr. FFerret and I have found a great deal of success in low-carbing. And heavy cream has zero carbs. :)

I guess we'll be stowing the scotch in the luggage, and he'll just have to gritch about having no heavy cream for the coffee. A liquor store at the CR is new to me, though! Going to have to investigate there.

Thanks, everyone!!!

It's on the 2nd level. If you were walking towards the observation deck, it's the last store on the left. They also carry liquor at the Poly, WL, and GF. And again, they sell liquor at Meadow(s), but have a more limited selection. It's behind the cash register next to the slushies and coffee station. I guess they want to encourage spiking your drinks! :rolleyes1

My Contemporary outings have all been going, leaving Chef Mickey's via the monorail! And our Chef Mickey day is on a Sunday... I'm assuming Florida is like TX will blue laws. Will just have to do w/ Meadows when we check in :) Sure wish we could spot an otter! Been to the fort three times and nuthin'.

Weird... the nutrition facts on our carton's label says 0%--0 grams. That list you posted has this:
Cream, fluid, heavy whipping 2.79g tbsp 0.42g
Cream, fluid, heavy whipping 2.79g fl oz 0.83g

Either way we keep most days under 20g total :) My bubble is still intact :rotfl:

It's not weird at all. What happened was the diet gurus separated fats from starches and sugars in order to justify eating large quantities of fatty bacon in diets like the Atkins diet. So they junked the scientific definition of a carbohydrate and created their own, namely carbs are only starches and sugars. The reality is fats are long chain carbohydrates used to store energy in the body. The building blocks are the sugars and starches. A carb is a carb, however, no matter what Jenny Craig or anybody else pushing a diet will tell you, and omitting fat from the definition doesn't make it disappear. From a nutritional standpoint, in fact, the carb they have eliminated, namely fat, is far more harmful in a diet than the simpler carbs like mono and disaccharides.

In Florida, the laws regarding liquor sales on Sunday's are governed by the individual counties.. In Osceola & Orange counties (where Disney is located), they can legally sell liquor after 9am in stores and after 7:30am in restaurants (people need their mimosa's) so you shouldn't need to wait.

I hope you can spot an otter, too! I haven't seen one at Disney in almost 3 years!!

I understood enough of your explanation, Jim, to realize why, when I was following Atkins, my blood glucose count never went below 200, which has caused irreparable nerve damage in my feet & threw me into a general panic!! Now that I'm following Weight Watchers, the insulin my Dr prescribed for me is still sitting in the fridge with orders not to use it until I have my next A1C test in September. Since abandoning Adkins and eating a well balanced, low fat diet, my glucose level is hanging between 80-115. Amazing! Simply amazing.
