Has anyone ever been to Fort Charlotte in Nassau? I am trying to think of something cool for myself and my 16 year old brother to do. This sounds like something he would like to see. Is it in walking distance of the dock?

Thanks for any help! :)

Hello,
Yes we have been to the fort, actually there are 2 forts, but I can't remember the name of the 2nd one. It is way too far to walk.
We took the Historical City Tour. It was 2 hours long and it takes you in an air conditioned van to both forts, queen Anne's staircase and some narrated drive around part of the island. If you take the tour you have about 25 minutes at each fort, which is plenty of time to see it. One fort you just walk into and not much to see. But Fort Charlotte actually gives you a guided tour and then turns you loose to explore on your own if you want. We thought it was pretty neat to see.
If you want somewhere to walk to in Nassau, try the Pirates museum, if you like history. It's $12.00 per person. Most of it is set up like the inside of a pirates ship and shows you how people lived on board. There are some very old weapons at the end of the museum that are really great. There are lot of plaques to read as you go through. It's self guided, however there is a awesome pirate that greets you out front and starts you on your tour.
From the ship you can see the straw market, the museum is about 2 blocks behind it. It's a big 2 story purple building. after you get off the dock and through the building they make you go through, just follow the sidewalk to the right on the water front, toward the straw market( a large white tent building) about 2 0r 3 blocks. Just take a road that heads behind it and you can't miss the big purple building. There are lots of tourists to ask if you get turned around. We could see the top of the building from deck 10 on the wonder. The museum has it's own web site, but I'm not sure what it is. You could probably use search engine for Nassau pirate museum and find it.
good luck. Both places are great to see.

We also took the two hour historical city tour. The best value ever, definately worth doing.

The Passporter says that this tour goes to Fort Charlotte, Fort Fincastle, Queen's Staircase, and the Water Tower. I read somewhere that you can climb the Water Tower for free, or pay for an elevator. If DH goes up, he'll have to ride an elevator. What about Government House, Queen Victoria's statue, and Christ Church? Will we make "photo stops" at any of those places?
TIA,
Melanie

Melanie,
When we went a few months ago we did not stop at any water tower and the other places we just drove by, didnt stop at the queen's statue, the Christ Church or the government house.
We just did the 2 castles, the staircase, mostly we rode round and had a good guide who narrated the history of things we were going by at the time. It was a very good tour.
They may have added the water tower to the tour after we went on it, they may have added stops at the other places too, but I don't know for sure.
Hopefully someone who has just done the tour will reply and let us know if it's changed to include more things.

When we went on the tour in March, we did not make a stop at the water tower. Our guide said that it was closed due to hurricane damage.
