Fort Canine

I don't mind dogs, it's the owners I can't stand. When you have a dog, you should realize not everyone appreciates the smell, the slobber, the noise... of your little babies. There's a place for dogs, and there's place for people. Sooner or later there will be an unfortunate accident at the resort involving a dog in a place that was prohibited. You'll see it on the news and the first thing the owner will say is that doggie's never done that before and how sorry they are... And then that will be the end of dogs at FW. If you lve your dog so much, how can you leave it locked up in a trailer all day while your at a park or pool?

That wasn't even an original pot-stirring. I'll go pet my dogs while you think of something better. popcorn::

Ok I'll bite (pun totally intended)... true that there are always those irresponsible people that think the rules don't apply to them and the rest of the world be damned. Some of them are dog owners... and some of them are parents, golf cart drivers, and ....well.... just plain humans.

Those of us here that ARE responsible about our pets get just as annoyed at "those people" as non-pet people because they ruin it for the rest of us that really do try hard to make sure both our pets AND our neighbors are happy.

That said, I have only one more thing to add, and that would be a photo of a totally miserable dog enjoying the 2nd 3-week vacation she's spent at WDW in the camper mom and dad bought her...

...and yes, we packed that extra chair just for her. :dance3:

Actually, I don't. I pay for the kennel for him during the day. And before you criticize me for that, too, the staff walks him, plays with him, gives him snacks, etc.

yeah i never go to the fort without my dog. i bought a camper with a trundle bed in the back part , bunkhouse area, this is my dogs bed. we even give it chew toys when we go to parks. usually one of cycles back through during the day to refill backpack with waters and walks the dog. we even leave the tv on the disney cartoon channel. she loves it. and i do not know if the dog barks when we are gone but i never hear her as we approach. and i always ask my neighbors if they here her. my dog loves the fort.
you should also look at the pictures from last halloween. their was a dog parade sponsored by disney. i think they understand campers love animals. hence why they camp to be in the great outdoors

What is the solution then? I have two dogs who are not 'socialized'. We have taken them camping a few times hoping they'd fit in & enjoy the outdoors but found it wasn't worth our hassle as they constantly barked at people, which created stress for us. They didn't enjoy camping, and neither did we. Every camper I apologized to said not to worry, but I was terribly embarrassed that they wouldn't behave. So we now leave them at home with our 5 kitties (yes I'm a cat lover too). But, even at home they don't enjoy it with me being gone. I compare this to your question....how could I leave them locked up all day at home with a teenager watching them who doesn't want to play with them, pet them, scratch them & give them people food treats? and this is day & night for up to 2 weeks. I think the doggies at FW in the trailers have it better.

I know kind of off-topic, but have you ever heard of the CD "Through a Dogs Ear?" - it can be downloaded on iTunes as well. We have a foster dog that was constantly barking at people, and had the hardest time calming down. I thought people were bonkers for suggesting a CD to help regulate the behavior, but it really works. It is just classical music at a slower tempo. But, it worked wonders for this crazy anxious dog. We still have other things to work on like leash aggression but it has been successful. Now back to the discussion at hand...

I for one think that if you choose to bring your dogs you are more than welcome to at FW. The only thing that ever annoys me about other dog owners is when they don't pick up after them. But, most people are great about it. For a lot of us, our pets are our kids and better behaved sometimes. But I don't propose outlawing either and certainly wouldn't bring up a topic like that not expecting pushback. Sometimes we just have to respect that others are going to have a different viewpoint but that the majority usually always wins.

I love the dog chair with the cup holders. Now that is one spoiled pup. Where is his beer? :rotfl2:

Poor deprived neglected unloved doggie......

In an effort to make FW a noise free zone, Bobby has announced Disney's Noise Eradication Program, heretofor known as DNEP. First, no children, pets, golf carts or busses will be allowed on FW proper. Second, a mass extermination of all annoying wildlife will begin. Third, all boat whistles will be silenced, as will the the EWP and train whistles at MK. Fourth, fireworks will be replaced with LEDs. Fifth, horses will be outfitted with slippers so wagon and carriage rides may continue, since this is a good source of revenue for the Mouse. Finally, all CM's will only be allowed to communicate in American sign language, and guests will be provided with notepads and pens to allow communication. He is still working on how to eliminate that annoying breeze in the trees.

I have advised him to start clearing any and all landscape, including all trees.
I also advised him to post a new rule that no awnings or any hanging of flags of any sort are allowed due to the flapping in the wind noise and no OUTDOOR CLOTHES HANGING! Lord knows we can't have both sight pollution and noise pollution when they flap in the wind. It is also now required that if you bring a pet that it must have had it's vocal cords removed.:thumbsup2

Now that's going a bit too far. My lime-green thongs do not make any noise at all while they are hangin on the line. I think they blend well with the green landscape.

WDW1979 I have to agree with you we have gone for years to FW and we have dogs. There are good owners and not so good owners and the few of the later seem to ruin it for everyone else. I really felt this was a bad decision by the campground.
I dont know how many dogs I have seen loose, dirty campsites and surrounding areas and dogs in areas they are not supposed to be. The freedom to bring your pet has gotten abused my a minority.

I always remember the peacocks screeching at the top of their lungs every morning and evening! I do miss the peacocks though. So, I guess there's always noise in a campground. I take the dog barking, along with all the other little noises that go in a campground -- people clanging pots and pans, kids running around and yelling, golf carts driving by, buses, Electrical Water Pageant floating by, fireworks, people talking, etc. Doesn't bother me a bit. (Unless of course, somebody leaves their barking dog alone all day long in their motorhome.) But, a little barking here and there is not a big deal to me. :)

I agree with you 100%, (also, don't forget about the loud music). I would not even consider camping with out my dog. He is just like a kid to us, and much more behaved then some kids. It is a campground for petes sake, what do you expect? If anyone don't like dogs or noise, they should stay at a regular resort.
I do agree that some owners don't follow the rules, such as cleaning up after their dogs (especially when the kids walk the dogs, they tend not to clean it up), or taking them in areas they are not allowed and excessive barking, but the majority of people do control their pets. Yes, my dog does bark sometimes (just a few barks) but it is just to say hello to someone walking by. I can't help he is a very friendly animal and yes, we do leave our dog in the camper when we are gone, we also leave the tv on for him, and we do come back during the day to walk him and leave him out, he does not have a problem with it. He does not bark while we are away, it is his time to sleep. I see no difference of leaving him in the camper or leaving him in the house alone all day.

I travel to The Fort with my dogs and wouldn't think of leaving them home. In the past, I have had more of a problem with unruly, obnoxious, disrespectful kids. If you really look at the dirty campsites, they aren't in the areas with dogs. Most dog owner have too much respect for their pets. I agree with the problem of children not picking up the pooh that their dogs make. When we have seen that, we have mentioned it to them. Most of them comply and if their parents are around, the kids usually get in trouble. Aso, don't forget about the underage kids driving golf carts. Just because you bring your own, you still have to follow the rules. As far as pets being in areas that they aren't supposed to be in, the same can be said for the golf carts. However, nothing is done about that either. It seems that some people just like to push the envelope of what is aloud. If you go into the parks, you see the same with "handicap" guests. I actually saw a boy in a wheelchair so his family could get great seating for the fireworks at Epcot. Guess what???? As soon as the fireworks were over, he magically recovered and took off running. Must have been the Disney Magic.pluto:pluto:
